Building a backup monitoring platform

Hi all,

My name is Nuno, I am from Portugal but currently based in the Netherlands.

I am currently building a SaaS product about showing a particular brand the sentiment around their brand/products. They can also explore their competitors.

You can follow that journey on my Twitter or here on IH where I post project updates.

But I also have an idea to build a backup monitoring platform, similar to https://deadmanssnitch.com/, but with additional features in terms of notifications.

Looking for a frontend developer to partner up with, mainly with React experience, since this time for this project I would like mainly to focus on the backend side of things.

Let me know if you are interested.

Best regards,
Nuno Bispo

    Hi Nuno,

The background task monitoring niche is not quite as competitive as, say website uptime monitoring, but new projects are springing up regularly. As an author of one such service (https://healthchecks.io), I'm keeping track of any new services I come across. Here's my current list:

    cronitor.io
    cronhub.io
    deadmanssnitch.com
    ohdear.app
    site24x7
    pushmon.com
    cronmonit.app (defunct)
    betteruptime.com
    idlemon.net
    uptimerobot
    cron.health (defunct)
    surveyr.io
    cronbuzz.com (defunct)
    cronboard.io
    thenping.me
    webgazer.io
    cronalarm.com
    crondrive.com
    sensorpad.io
    croncommander.com (defunct)
    bringschuld.io
    monitor.gravyware.com
    cronist.dev
    cronarium.com (pre-launch)

I'm not sure if additional notification methods would cut it as a differentiator. I would think about targeting specific software (monitoring for borg/restic/duplicacy) or specific frameworks (monitoring for django/laravel/rails), or paradigm (instead of web UI, everything's managed through a Slack bot or Telegram bot or Twitter DMs or ...).

      Hi Peteris,

      Thanks for the detailed reply.

It is a very particular niche, which gives more space to introduce different approaches.

I have thought in the past about building a SaaS-based of Telegram.

      Something to think about, thanks.

By the way, love your tech stack, a big fan of Django.
