Building a community with different political views. I need help.

This week was rough. We've started in June and never feel that way until this moment.

So after the discussion, I've called both of them to understand their approach. Then we made a zoom call the two of them join to share how they feel and what they think. We've talked for three hours. In the end, both of them seem ok and understand the idea of the community.

Thursday we have a weekly call where we discuss current events happening in our country. Then the discussion came to that topic and people getting angry again. As the moderator, I've tried to take their attention to building together to solve this problem like 3-4 times. But they understand me like last time.

So here are some takeaways,

• Always remember and remind the mission: We are here for building a livable society where every thought counts but those thoughts are here to build something new. We should prepare members to focus on this cause.
• Build a discussion that we can create a collaborative solution: People will share their thoughts knowing that those thoughts will create the future.
• Moderate strongly: Put the rules, don’t give people any chance to change purpose.

In action,

• We are changing our weekly call structure. I’ll share it here when we decide what should we choose.
• We’ve already put some rules but we will make them more actionable and the person who moderates will have the charges.
• Moderate weekly, every member will taste how moderation feels and we’ll understand how moderation should be together.
• We’ll get some lectures about feeling each other, how to collaborate etc.
• We’ll focus on what we can do for building the future and start projects.
