The Backstory Hi everyone! I’m a software developer from Colombia. I’m excited to share my latest project: Conversor Universal.
I built this because I was frustrated with the current state of online unit converters. Most of them are bloated and slow to load. I wanted to create something that just works—fast, clean, and reliable.
The Tech Stack To achieve the performance I was looking for, I went with:
React + Vite: For an extremely lightweight Single Page Application (SPA).
PWA (Progressive Web App): I implemented a Service Worker with a cache-first strategy, so it’s fully installable and works 100% offline.
i18n: Automatic language detection (Spanish/English).
Dynamic Theming: Smooth Dark/Light mode support based on system preferences.
Key Features
14+ Unit Categories: Everything from length and mass to fuel efficiency and data storage.
Real-time Currencies: Live exchange rates for 150+ fiat currencies and top Cryptocurrencies (BTC, ETH).
Current Experience: 100% free to use, no registration, and currently no ads or pop-ups.
Transparency (Current Metrics) Here is where the project stands today:
Users: 0 (Just launching today!).
Business Model: The tool is currently free and ad-free. My plan is to eventually sustain the project through non-intrusive advertising as the traffic grows, keeping the core experience fast and useful.
Status: Technical launch completed. This is a closed-source indie project focused on high performance.
What’s Next? I’m working on adding modules for color conversion (HEX/RGB), numeric bases (ASCII/Unicode), and size charts (clothing/rings).
Feedback Requested I’d love for you to try it out, especially the PWA installation. I’m curious to know: How does the performance feel on your end? Are there any specific conversion categories you feel are missing in your daily workflow?
