Hey Indie Hackers!
I’ve been working on Lengpal, a free video chat platform designed for instant language exchange. The idea came from my own frustration with language apps—too much back-and-forth texting, scheduling headaches, and slow progress in speaking.
With Lengpal, learners can:
✅ Instantly connect with native speakers via video chat—no waiting, no scheduling.⏳ Use a timer to ensure fair practice in both languages.
🌍 Add city backgrounds and cultural filters to make it fun and immersive.
We’re still in early development and collecting feedback. I’d love to hear your thoughts:
• Have you faced similar struggles with language learning?
• What features would make a language exchange platform a game-changer for you?
We’re launching soon, and early access is open here: https://lengpal.com
Would love your feedback! 🚀
I actually need this for work - too many platforms don't get you speaking. So you're reading and writing is super high but your oral and fluency speaking is terrible. And I need to practice french so I created a mini 15 min speaking group 3x a week. Some advice I can say that's helped us in our mini meets
Setting topics for convo sessions
Set the meeting time based on vocabulary or speaking content ability.
Sometimes we practice phrases that we want to use instead of topic based
making sure you're practice buddy is the same level
Self selection of french level may not be equal to some else - consider leveraging a free assessment tool to test people and make yours more accurate over time and customized
Working through language levels A1-C2 through busuu that properly defined the journey was massive for me and I'm learning far more than duolingo
Consider unstructured sessions and structured sessions (learning journey stage, topics, target words to use etc
You seem to solve this which is coordinating time to have a speaking buddy on demand making it super flexible at your convenience
Consider people being able to have meets again if theyre a good speaking fit and get along
Checkout busuu - theyre quite good to support the level understanding academics/work uses and otuer stuff
Happy to give more ideas if you find this helpful! Again I actually need tools like this to be B2 in 6 months 🙌
Thanks for sharing your experience! I completely agree—too many platforms focus on reading and writing, but speaking practice is where most learners struggle. That’s exactly why I’m working on Lengpal—a free video chat platform for instant language exchange. No scheduling, just real-time conversations with native speakers.
Love the structured vs. unstructured session idea, and the level-matching suggestion is spot on! Would love to hear your thoughts on how to make this even better. If you’re interested, early access is open here: https://lengpal.com
B2 in 6 months is impressive—good luck on your journey! 🚀
Thanks! Instant video practice requires a massive user base - maybe sharing zcal.co calendars to get activity. But I've already signed up! If it works wellI'd love to share with work colleagues - which could be an B2B opportunity to meet language objectices and probably more lucrative and stable. Maybe 1:1 users are free either way to get users You can retarget via ad roll other language platforms that aren't too big but enough to get boost the audience
