Building a IP data and threat intelligence platform.
I am thinking about building an IP data API which would return IP related info like geolocation, timezones, currency, dns data, all this in a simple and compact JSON form.
The idea is to leverage cloud based resources for fast response times as well.
Now... The IP Geolocation API market is already filled with very good products, and I was wondering what could be a way for a new comer to be noticed in this market.
Most of the pre existing solutions result to be quite expensive for the customers, this leads me to think I could come up with a pricing structure which could be less expensive for the final user.
I really would like to know what you guys think about alternative ways to be noticed.
I hope to get some feedback from this post, i think it is crucial for a saas idea to be validated before even starting building anything.
Hey there. I see that you have closed down the AstroIP service. Do you plan to re-sell the service to a new owner or share the transfer ownership? I would be interested in running it for a while and see if I can use it as a main or side project.
The IP Geolocation API is a crowded market since Maxmind and IP2Location about 20 years ago.
In this case, you need to calculate breakeven cost when deciding pricing structure.
Good point, and figuring out the right pricing structure is going to be a tricky one.
Maxmind and IP2location are great products, but they get hyper expensive very quickly if you want to get their full set of data points. Ideally I would like to offer as much data as possible to an affordable price.
