Hey Indies, I'm building devtionary.com (not yet released) as niche job board for developers (that's how i'll pay the bills) but I’m looking for ideas to attract developers, some of them:
Do you think it would be a good idea to create a job board for devs?
Any other idea? I would greatly appreciate it!
The issue is just that developers usually get contacted by recruiters on LinkedIn without needing to apply for jobs which would render this site of little value.
Very good call out --- this is the exact idea/issue that I am trying to tackle with my project: https://myperfectjob.club/
It's a reverse job board, rather an ideal role board. You tell companies what you want and what you don't want from your next role.
That is a nice idea. I am tired of replying to irrelevant messages from recruiters. I would also like to do small consultancy gigs that last just up to a week so I am not committed to a contract. Basically small automation tasks that I can accomplish easily. If you can help me get such gigs with a reasonable compensation I would use your site.
Good point! I'll need to think in that 🤓
Check out https://lemon.io/ I think that they have a really nice approach
Thanks!! looks interesting...
Don't intend to demotivate you, but aren't there a ton of job boards for devs already?
I didn't find it just for developers, job boards usually include job postings for developers, but I would love something specialized. Thanks for feedback!
yeah, it must be such platform where the developers could share their portfolio also. Like recently I developed https://babyapk.com/avakin-life-mod-apk/ and in the past I have developed may more site but the platform must have the option of sharing portfolio so we could showcase our previous work.
Great idea! thanks
I agree. I think this is a tough niche to get a foot in the door.
Job boards are great, but maybe a different niche would work better
Could you explain? Thanks for the feedback.
I just think the tech/dev scene is crowded with job boards. I like the ideas from Peter Askew (@searchbound on twitter). he has job boards for niches like cowboy ranches and SEO, maybe some others.
But if you have the marketing skill and/or budget, you can still do very well in the dev niche
thank you.. I actually just got my SEOjobs.com co-founder, @Nickleroy signed up for Indiehackers, so we'll have another strong SEO on board for any builders with SEO questions : )
Oh wow.. Didn't know you were on IH.
@csallen can we have Peter on the IH podcast? To talk about VidaliaOnions, RanchJobs and SEOJobs.
Would love to listen to that conversation.
Hi guys!!
Oh wow, didn't know you were on Indie Hackers, that's awesome!
Sounds good, Interesting idea!
There's plenty of job boards for developers, and most of them get contacted on LinkedIn or directly via e-mail (if they shared it somewhere)
I'm also building a job board but for green tech companies only https://workingreen.jobs
Great! Could you share your experience? I am looking for a dev niche. Thanks.
I would take a WEB3 niche and double down on it.
The WEB3 topic is hot right now on Twitter, so it can be an easy marketing channel for you.
Here are the steps you can follow:
2 years ago I already tried to set up a job board and will be heppy to answer your questions 😄
And check out this platform pallet.com . You can setup a job board and the only thing need to do is to build a community
Yea, web3 is one of my alternatives to choose. Thank you for your generosity! I'll keep it in mind.
Being specialized in something specific is the key to success, so I recommend that you focus on a specific niche without leaving the world of developers, from my point of view, I recommend Web3 Blockchain. ride the wave 🌊 and triumph.
Yea, that's the bottom line here, I'll be looking for a more specific niche for devs! Thanks
Try my job board https://remotefront.io, more than 900 people follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/remotefront
We aggregate remote jobs from different popular remote job boards and then give you a single user interface to filter them all.
Thanks, how are you making money?
Job postings and job alert subscription.

I personally am missing a part-time job board. Maybe that niche could be good for you to try out.
Interesting! Something like reduced-time (30-36 hours) or part-time (20 hours or less)...sounds good?
Yup, would check those offers every so often
Are you have design for this idea? For me one of the best job-board is justjoin.it Its have filter by technologies or city. Jobs is placed on the map. You can look of it, and inspire it :)
I would love something minimal to start. That site is great, I didn't know about it, thanks!!
It’s good going niche, but I will go for junior developer only. Why ?
Senior dev will not apply for job, but recruiter will find him on linkedin
Junior dev will more hungry for experience
Junior dev will more active to look for job opportunity
For inspiration, I will go for remote job board for junior devs, what do you think?
Sounds like a good niche too, thanks!
Hey! King of junior devs here. I've created the first and biggest community and job board for juniors:
www.juniorjobsonly.com
This isn't as easy as you may think.
Great! Would you like to share how your experience has been?
It's hard to monetize juniors - this is the most important thing.
Yep, I never say it was easy.
Nowadays is a problem to attract developers because they are flooded by messages, there is a worldwide deficit of them. But let's say is not. Let's pretend you got them.
How are you going to attract companies that want to hire them? What will you offer for companies that will opt for your platform and not the huge ones very established that already exist?
For example, Indie Hackers have this beautiful community. We are all here so you simply post a job offer because you are already here. How are you going to get the companies without a community or tons of cash for ads? How much it will cost you any of those options?
I'm looking for a better niche, but I'll surely have to face those questions.. I'll try though!
My friend I can provide hundreds of professional developers or rather freelancers in general for free if you are interested I have a lot of freelance friends ...
simply narrow your targeting in the search process as reddit communities for developers .. etc.
Great! thanks...I'll work on it!!
it's just my personal opinion but I think you need to narrow down the niche. for instance, it can be a job board for world wide remote developers or job board for web3 developer.. something like that. If it's just for developer I would say Linkedin, with their sophisticated user profiling, they already cover this area.
Hey, thanks for the comment! Everyone here thinks something like that and I think it's true, I'm thinking of a dev niche, for ex, developers in Latin America who speak English but I'm not sure yet... by the way, your app looks great, good job !
