Building a Local Business Website in a Competitive Market

Hi everyone,

Over the past few months, I've been working on a local business website focused on kitchen remodeling in Palo Alto, California.

The idea started after noticing that many local service businesses struggle with online visibility despite offering excellent services. At the same time, homeowners often find it difficult to compare remodeling options, understand project costs, and find reliable contractors for major renovation projects.

To address this, I built:

https://paloaltokitchenremodel.com/

The goal is to create a useful resource for homeowners researching kitchen renovations while also helping connect them with professional remodeling services in the area.

Some of the challenges I've been working through include:

• Building local SEO authority in a competitive market
• Creating location-specific content that genuinely helps homeowners
• Improving user experience and conversion rates
• Developing trust through project information, educational content, and local relevance

I'm particularly interested in learning from other founders who have experience with local businesses, lead generation websites, or service-based websites.

What strategies have worked best for you when growing a local business online?

I'd appreciate any feedback on the website, content structure, or overall positioning.

Thanks for reading. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I looked at the site. You've already covered costs, permits and nearby areas, so I wouldn't add more location pages just yet. What would help me trust it as a homeowner is seeing two or three actual projects with real before and after photos, the scope and a rough budget range. I'd also make it very clear who does the work and, if this is a lead generation site rather than the contractor's own site, how the introduction works. I'm with SL Marketing, and I'd measure quote enquiries from those project pages before chasing more rankings. That would tell you whether the trust gap is closing.
