Building a new social calendar targeted towards gen z

I recently moved to a new city for work and quickly began to realize how difficult it is to make plans with friends I kind of know but not well. I'll meet people out and about, grab their Instagram or phone number, but that's often the end of the road. No one ever reaches back out. It's like this socially awkward area where both parties know each other, but not well enough to confidently reach out whenever they want to. It's almost like you need an event or special occasion too. Trapped in this dilemma, I decided to take a stab at solving it.

It's called 'The Week.' It's a social calendar that helps new friends stay in touch in a low-effort manner. Think of it as if Google Calendar and Twitter had a baby. The main difference between this and a normal calendar is the social aspect of it. Going to the gym? Add it. Looking for a friend to go to a concert? Add it. Everything is shared in a chronological feed, making it easy to see what everyone is up to. This way, you now have an actual topic to talk about rather than just randomly reaching out.

It's available in the app store, and I would love any feedback or initial impressions.

This is super cool, great job! Interesting way to solve a problem that I feel like many have tried to solve. The design looks super modern. Any ideas on you are going to start monetizing?

Kind love this type of app and new options and something different from instagram/tiktok.

Most the ppl on app are friends or you targeted some specific demographic / cohort ? Because I know this app https://www.joinsaturn.com/ but it's different audience and niches I think.

Right now we're hyper targeting Santa Monica mainly just because thats where a good amount of my friends are located. I think once Santa Monica begins getting traction then well plan on doing a city by city expansion. The goal is to target cities that have a large influx of gen z transplants.

And yes, Saturn is on the list of inspiration. But you're correct, their demo is high schoolers.

That's cool it looks kind of good adoption you have. What's your understanding to have the density influx of genz in your network?

Super interesting idea! Just out of curioisity, how are you thinking of monetizing it?

We have some generic ideas such as transitional ad models. Maybe promote business's or events that pay for spotlight. Would love any ideas if you have them!

Downloaded it to play around with it by the way! Did a great job, like the simple, clean UX. Always have ideas.

A couple that might be interesting to consider:

        Venue Collabs:

        1. Venue Partners: charge a fee for venue partners to be set options for users to plan events with (eg. a games bar, restaurants that are good for groups, mini golf spots, etc…). These partners would be recommended options on the calendar when you’re planning certain events (eg. “Book a reservation at Mini Golf World for your mini golfing experience”).
        2. Flash Deals: charge a fee for venues that host deals on specific days of the week and feature them as recommended in the social calendar (eg. “Join others at Taco Tuesday at Carlos’ Mexican Grill”).

        Ticket Collaborations:

        1. Ticket Partners: charge a transaction fee for every ticket sale driven by the social calendar (eg. “Johnny is looking for people to go to the Ed Sheeran concert with him [link to ticketing platform to buy ticket for concert]). These tickets could be for: sporting events, concerts, comedy shows, movies, etc…

          Love these ideas, thank you!

What an inspiring story! It sounds like you solved a problem many of us can relate to. You've displayed great initiative and perseverance in taking the time to put together a social calendar that can help many of us make more meaningful connections. Kudos to you for that!

      Thank you! Means a ton!

I like your design. Do you plan some Google Calendar integration?

Today we support adding events to Gcal from the app :) there will definitely be tighter integrations coming soon. Thanks for the comment!
