Building a Passion Project - Tougher Than I Thought

I was on a vacation in Austria on the second of July this year and decided that it is time to start putting my money where my mouth is.

I decided to build an idea I have been thinking about for a couple of years:

A website which aggregates football predictions and gives you consensus picks, making it easy to identify "sure-fire" football outcomes (soccer, if you are in the US).

I learned the hard way that as a hobby engineer, coming up with an architecture that makes sense, setting up my server and overall making the whole thing make sense took quite a bit of time.

I have dealt with a lot of personal issues during this period, avoided posting on Twitter and just pushed forward and learned a lot during this period (You can follow me at https://twitter.com/EscadeSupremo).

I am happy to announce that the MVP is finally done: https://www.predicto.fyi/

Happy to get your input guys and ladies, please feel free to trash it :)

I recommend you to check it out and let me know what you think

Congrats and thanks for sharing! As someone else mentioned, if you were able to keep a public running tally of your system's predictions success, it would give even more data and intrigue to fans of the sport (and betting, perhaps)!

Congrats on launch even if its an mvp!

I would have loved a peek at the final score of what the outcome actually was. A nitpick but it will help me wanting to see how the game turned out, a nice to have though. That being said, this is very interesting stuff and keep plugging away.

The experience gained especially because one tends to put more hours into it being a passion project, always results in a positive outcome

Congrats, Kristof! Great achievement. It always gets much more complicated than you‘d expect at the beginning of a project. Even as a seasoned engineer I always underestimate.

Amazing that you pulled through 💪

    Congrats on launching, Kristof!
As you said, it's harder than it seems.

My experience, is that I often don't exactly know what the product will turn out to be once released. A lot of the figuring out happens along the way.

That's what sometimes make you feel like "the whole thing doesn't make sense."

Good on you for pushing forward :)

That's clearly a labour of love, well done Kristof. It's an interesting idea, could be of use to bookies and punters.

A labour of love or just a love of labour.
Been there so many times .

It has definitely been done before, but it's all about the learning experience. Projects like this help you grow, even if they don't have value for others.
