Building a SaaS in four weeks, from zero to selling

I'm building out a full SaaS product, from start to finish, over the next four weeks. Building a different kind of form handling service, unlike Wufoo etc no additional code needs to be added to the end user's site.

If you'd like to follow along / see the process / the result you can check it out here
https://workandwit.co/fourweeksaas/ & the end product will live here http://formcaster.co

edit: changed image to make it clear the product & its viability is less my focus than the process.

    Hey @toadally nice goal!

I have seen 10+ similar products how do you plan to market this product?

There is clearly a need for the product but getting noticed will be the hardest part and making it worth your while will all depend on getting paid customers.

No consideration to marketing has been given. I'm not building it with an eye to marketing it, the build is about talking about the process, getting people to take action and build their own instead of noodling on their ideas, etc. Very happy to largely let it sit there as another thing I've built that occasionally someone will use.

Building a SaaS today is very easy.

Anyone with a few years development experience can do it.

Selling is the interesting part to most of us on IHs.

How can you make a sustainable business that provides for you long term.

          It's simply not true.
The fact that "Anyone with a few years development experience can do it." doesn't make the process easy.

Funny, I am in the exact opposite. Selling/Marketing is the easy thing for me. Building the product is where I struggle most.

Then just partner up with a great developer :)

Selling the product is by far the hardest thing when it comes to a SaaS.

"Then just partner up with a great developer :)"

Easier said than done. Partnering up with anyone is full of risks and challenges, and shouldn't be done haphazardly. You have to trust them, and they need to understand and agree with the vision for your product/company.

Lots of developers want to hop into the world of SaaS.

Easier than ever I think to find one due to that.

Plus building a SaaS has got a lot easier with the current tools.

          2. 1

You all should team up :)

"Selling is the interesting part to most of us on IHs."

          Where is that coming from?

          1. 1

You see 100s of products posted here most never make any money.

We're building, that's it. Thanks for the concern about the long term marketability of the result though :)

Very ambitous project! Keep us tuned! Just for my curiosity, why 4 weeks? To keep motivation at a high level?

That's the shortest amount of time I thought I could reasonably accomplish the goal given our shop's current load, and the holiday season. Also it was a pretty snap call, I decided on doing it, and started, same day.

    from zero to selling
Sorry for my bad English, but do you mean "selling my SaaS to someone who would buy the whole SaaS" or "selling my SaaS' service to the end-users"?

    1. 1

      Selling to end-users.
