It has been near two months of running topai.tools, and I am exposed to a decent number of AI applications every day. Here are some quick thoughts about building an AI app from this experience:
Ensure what you are building won't be replaced by a button in google suite or microsoft office. It's only a matter of time before AI features become native in the apps we use every day. For example, at least basic email writing features will soon become part of Outlook or Gmail. Therefore, make sure your app provides something unique that wouldn't be disrupted by tech giants in-product features. This brings us to point number #2.
Solve a real problem and add AI features to enhance your app's value. Instead of just building an AI app for the sake of FOMO, make sure your APP is solving a real problem for a specific group of people and add AI features into your app to make it even better. Solve a problem, fix some limitation and just make sure that your APP won't be replaced by a simple API call to GPT3.5 or GPT4.
Try to avoid saturated niches. There are already somewhat saturated niches, if you check any AI tools directory these days you will easily see that there are niches with an overwhelming number of options and other niches with very limited options or at least good ones. While it's not necessary to look for blue oceans, it's crucial to avoid building an app in a bloody red ocean market unless you know you have a real advantage that will make a group of users prioritize your app over others.
Are you building an AI app, what are your thoughts?
This is really useful, in fact your third point about saturated niches is what resonates the most with me!
pretty much agree, I can see that first hand sifting through apps daily
Absoulutely agree! Strong moat is a very important factor to survive in this wave.
Thanks for sharing, I think it's spot on .. this market will see a lot of disruption over the next few months
Thank you
Microsoft and Google are going to make a killing in the market.
They will do
100% Agree, your second point is what I am working on @ https://remixfast.com, incorporating AI assisted functionality to get rid of empty screens and help user create stuff faster! Having an AI endpoint to call upon on demand is a game changer, you can do so many tasks where you had to wait for a person!
Spot on, that exactly what I mean. Nice project.
Don't forget about the OpenAI plugins. This is likely to evolve into a marketplace in which many startups that rely on GPT API for the core product offering will be effected.
Hi sir.
How and in what sense do you think the plugin marketplace will be disruptive?
I read this argument many times before but not quite sure why 🤔
The plugins extend the ability of GPT to act as an agent on the internet. For example, it can act as a Facebook ads assistant. Business owners can run their ads using ChatGPT rather than outsourcing to a marketing agency and spending thousands of dollars each month. With the appropriate plugins, it could connect to Facebook Ads Manager via the Marketing API. Once it has access to all of the ad performance data, it can run data analysis, generate ad copy, select appropriate images, turn campaigns and AD sets on and off, and recommend new campaigns to run.
Indeed, that's one of the biggest disruptors 👌
I to want to build an AI app for my fitness website fitexpt.com so that those interested in exercise programs can download complete exercise programs.
Well, I can help you with that! I have a BSc in Physical Eduation and I am a Software Engineer
Absolutely agree! I've learned it the hard way :) A month ago, I launched an AI tool to generate product descriptions for online shops. This niche became oversaturated exceptionally quickly. So I've had to find several big marketing agencies that work with online shops to narrow the focus. Negotiating possible features and improvements now, and probably my tool will turn into a ChatGPT-backed marketing assistant :)
Also @Linkology, what do you think about launching an online community for AI product managers/devs/designers? Will it make sense? I've described the idea here: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/ai-focused-slack-community-for-product-managers-devs-designers-will-it-make-sense-62212b00b0
Would you like to join us as a core member? Seems like it might be interesting for you :)
Sure thing, interested . keep me posted.
Nice tips,Pretty interested to know what are the saturated niches in your experience?
general copywriting and content creation is quite saturated as an example. So if you plan to launch in these niches you need to have an advantage around something with your product or pricing model
Thanks for sharing useful information about AI and building an app. I am new to AI mainly if we talk about writing codes with ChatGPT. Yes, I am not much familiar with TopAi and I am only connected with ChatGPT or OpenAI nowadays.
I am using different cloud computing options like BaaS, IaaS and PaaS to build and deploy and host applications and I am interested to benefit from AI here. Indeed, I am thinking to combine BaaS and OpenAI and thinking to follow these guides:
https://blog.back4app.com/how-to-create-an-app-using-chatgpt/
https://cloud.google.com/blog/products/ai-machine-learning/create-generative-apps-in-minutes-with-gen-app-builder
However, I am not sure about their competitive effectiveness. Do you believe writing and debugging codes with ChatGPT is that effective? And it is straightforward to use a CSP+ChatGPT to smoothly build applications? Honestly, I am doing this project as an experiment but very much interested to use AI & cloud computing for actual projects.
Very useful thanks for sharing.
Glad it helps, thanks.
It's fantastic that you're sharing these insights from your experience with topai.tools! Your points about ensuring uniqueness, solving a real problem, and avoiding saturated niches are all spot on. Building an AI app can be a game-changer when done right.

Thank you for sharing this!
I am building a contente creation app, with speech and video, I don't think there are too many doing that. I am trying to get some users using the "meme creation" abilities of my system, to test it out. But it's intended to be a B2B SaaS
here is a 3 min demo

Great aggregation site!
Have you used AI to create it ?
Like others here I also started just by playing around with chatgpt to understand the capabilities. I've been applying it to SEC filing analysis. But I agree - it is a component to helping you solve an identified problem. Understanding what it can do though is important as it is really dependent on the problem you are working on.
Here's a one pager I'm testing out with lawyers and analysts - notice it doesn't mention anything about using AI - just that I believe visualization of text is a problem...

Also any feedback much appreciated!
Hey, thanks .. I didn't use AI to create it but the search is using AI and I'm working on other AI features.
https://gleamfire.carrd.co/ --> cool one that's a problem in my opinion that could benefit from AI solutions. Just one note, regarding the landing page, it took me sometime to understand what this is about (may be cause I am not in the target niche) but I would try to highlight the benefits/use case up on the page. Best of luck.
Cool thanks for the feedback!
Great points - I will revise it.
Your site already came in very handy for me as I was looking through the finance companies. I was able to find one that did SEC Filing analysis which I found very handy and quick to use.
appreciate you letting me know this :)
Also just chatting with another AI friend and he pointed me to this site that he monitors closely: https://theresanaiforthat.com/ he likes to use the timeline feature he said.
You're right. Recently, I'm working on one project which is particularly AI-biased, and the remaining is non-AI. I just added AI to keep myself in the flying balloon of AI.
Currently, I cannot disclose the idea. But the product will be live in the next 1-2 months!
Agree a lot on all of this! Especially with all the GPT wrappers coming out. I've noticed the image generation field is pretty hot right now for AI apps, and the best way to capitalize is focus on providing the backend for the AI app makers
It's what we're doing at evoke-app.com with our image gen API.
Another thing to keep in mind you don't have to be 100% competitive once you launch. You can build more competitive features later. So we just have stable diffusion API for Evoke right now, but we'll have better models up soon.
Well said, when everyone is launching an AI app be the one who provide them with the means to build an AI app, and yes you don't need to start fully polished/competitive, I actually intentionally never do.
The first tip is ridiculously obvious, but people still run into them. My startup https://wisio.app helps researchers write science and find references. Looks like it can be replaced by AI tools in Word, but I don't think so. Very good point!
I don't think so too, academic writing is a niche in itself and you can augment your app with features tailored for academics & researchers workflow. MS Word and the like apps are targeting the professional public.
I would recommend following people who already built AI tools like @levelsio on Twitter!

Thanks for the tips. I had a look at your site, seems good.
thanks
I love AI because it helps much and specially smartopt.org/baixar-gtiptv-5-apk app are very helpful
I actually have 2 ideas for an AI-related project:
Both seem interesting, first one specially. Are you working on any of them?
