I’m the founder of Nyata AI, an AI platform I started building while studying IT at UWE Bristol.
Instead of waiting for the “perfect startup moment”, I started building with the tools I already knew: PHP, MySQL and APIs.
Today Nyata AI connects people in Bristol with real-world services through AI — things like finding free meals, local support services, taxis, and professionals.
A few things I’ve learned so far:
• You don’t need the perfect stack to start.
• Local problems are often the best startup ideas.
• Shipping something real teaches more than reading startup advice.
Recently I was invited back to my university to speak to students about building AI products from scratch. That moment reminded me how fast things can change when you just keep building.
Still early, still learning, but enjoying the journey.
Curious to hear from other founders building AI tools — what stack did you start with?
"Building Nyata AI with the stack you already knew—PHP and MySQL—is the ultimate 'no-excuses' approach, Ibrahim. Too many founders get stuck in 'tutorial hell' trying to learn the newest framework instead of just solving the local problems right in front of them in Bristol.
Focusing on high-utility services like finding local support and professional help shows a real commitment to community value. This kind of 'boots on the ground' AI project would be a fantastic entry for the current competition. Entry is $19 and the winner gets a trip to Tokyo.
Prize pool just opened at $0. Your odds are the best right now. Definitely worth a look while you're scaling up from the university guest speaking circuit!
I started with a similar 'boring' stack—focusing on the logic first is always better than chasing the latest hype"
Hey, so glad to read your success story. You are absolutely right when you say that choosing the right problem to solve is more important than which stack you choose. At Seedium, we see this every day.
No wonder vibe coding is one of the latest tech startup trends. Sure, you’ll need support from experienced developers later, but you’ll be investing in an idea that you’ve already tested and are confident in.
Are you working on your own project?
