Woah! I've just started exploring Indiehackers and learning about side hustles and this is great inspiration. I just looked at your site and it looks amazing! As a self-taught beginner web developer myself I was wondering how you built the editor? What technologies did you use?

I am going to read all your Medium articles today. As a first-time founder it brings a lot of insights to me. Would you be open to having a quick 30m call? I'd like to ask you a couple of questions.

        1. 1

That's amazing! It feels so good to hear that. The whole point of the challenge was to keep myself on track, but if it also inspires others, that's really awesome. I won't be able to join a call, but please feel free to leave comments on the articles, and I promise I'll respond to all of them!

Dropped a couple of comments and read all of them. You mentioned that you were a designer before, did you learn how to code yourself?

Also, how are you planning to launch? I want to launch my first product, but don't want to burn money on marketing advertisements, before knowing the product is something people are going to be paying for. This was the reason I just killed my first product with a prototype finished - feedback was that people wouldn't be paying for it. Do you have any recommendations on how to launch effectively without betting all of your savings?

Were you still working a full-time job when you were launching your first product? I am currently deciding whether to find something full-time and be building something on the side, or just go all out for 3 months and try to launch as many products as possible.

            1. 1

Sure, I'll read them. I started off as a designer and learned to code, but I'm not really great at it. I mostly rely on copying and pasting code from Stack Overflow. However, I try to keep things simple and as long as it works, that's good enough for me. I don't necessarily need to use the latest technology. I still use jQuery quite often!

Why are you talking about spending a lot of money on marketing advertisements? You can launch your product on platforms like Product Hunt and Reddit (there are specific subreddits for this). That way, you can get an idea of whether people like your product and see its value. Spending money on ads should come later in the process. Testing the waters with a MVP shouldn't cost you a penny.

I still have a regular 9-to-5 job while I work on maintaining and building new products. I would advise you to be cautious about the romanticized idea of quitting your 9-to-5 job to pursue your indie dreams. The truth is, there's nothing wrong with reducing your risk by keeping your job while you work on a product that catches people's attention. You can grow it gradually and quit when you're more financially stable.

              1. 1

I consider learning to code myself. Although I have a tech co-founder, creating products myself might just be the fastest way to go, especially when I see the speed of how quickly you're moving forward. How long did it take you to learn it?

Thanks for the insights. Will do it with the next product. Just need to discover which one to launch now. I am leaning more towards B2B now.

I have just left my job, so I consider trying to launch anything right now as the best call. It can be anything, as long as it makes some money, if it doesn't work out I'll just consider it as a learning period of a couple of months and go for some full-time job again.

                1. 1

Sometimes, you don't even need a product. Just create a subscription page and see if people are interested. Once you validate the idea, you can then proceed to build it.

                  1. 2

Will give it a shot now. Finding something people are willing to pay for is priority number 1 for me now :)

Wow, really cool and we love it.
