Building BrighterBuddy: Helping Kids Shine On and Off the Screen

Hey everyone,

I’m a dad, a builder, and someone who’s been watching my daughter grow up in a world that wasn’t always made for her.

So I decided to start building BrighterBuddy—a sensory-friendly app and plush experience designed to help kids build confidence in real-life moments like saying “hi,” trying new words, or just taking a calming break when things feel overwhelming.

It’s not just about screen time—it’s about quality interactions, emotional support, and giving kids a Buddy who truly gets them.

So far, we’ve created:

  • A fully illustrated, kid-friendly UI

  • 8 unique Buddy characters with their own calming and playful personalities

  • A “Speech Zone” for voice practice, “Social Practice” scenes, and a “Calming Zone” to support sensory needs

  • A Parent Mode to help adults follow along and support the journey

We’re keeping sessions short, purposeful, and supportive—so kids can explore, then return to the real world feeling proud.

Right now I’m:

  • Refining the prototype visuals and flow

  • Exploring plush production

  • Looking for the right collaborators or builders to help bring it to life

If you’re a parent, indie maker, educator, or just someone who cares about neurodiversity, I’d love to connect.

Let’s build tools that make kids feel seen—and let them shine brighter just by being themselves.

“Building confidence with a Buddy.”
