Building mailing list when I only have a landing page and a demo video
I am building my landing page, and I'm going to include a waitlist sign-up box.
I probably won't send an email until my app is ready, but I do need to gauge the interest from people.
Do I need to worry about building the mailing system (currently looking at SES from AWS), send confirmation emails, etc., or can I just create a database and collect email addresses at this point?
I think collecting email addresses should be enough, but was not sure if there are any caveats or tips at this stage.
I think you're better off using an existing ESP rather than coding/configuring everything by yourself. It's better to focus on building your main app and marketing.
I did something similar before launching my blog. I used ConvertKit to collect the emails and sent a "welcome!" email when someone signed up on the waiting list. ConvertKit is free for your first 1000 subscribers. I think it's a good start :)
