Building MonPicker: A Modern Pokémon Favorite Picker for Web & Mobile

I’ve been working on a project called MonPicker — a modern Pokémon favorite picker and ranking tool built for desktop and mobile users.

The idea came from noticing that a lot of existing Pokémon picker tools are still surprisingly popular, but many of them:

  • were designed for older desktop layouts

  • don’t work well on phones

  • rely on huge overflowing grids

  • feel more like old fan pages than long-term products

At the same time, the demand is clearly still there.

Search terms like:

  • “favorite pokemon picker”

  • “favourite pokemon picker”

  • “random pokemon picker”

still have strong search volume with surprisingly low competition.

What I realized is that people aren’t just looking for a database or Pokédex.

They want to:

  • rank their favorite Pokémon

  • share results with friends

  • compare generations

  • create random challenge runs

  • express nostalgia and personal identity

So MonPicker is being built more like a modern community interaction tool rather than a static utility page.

Current focus:

  • responsive Pokémon picker grid

  • mobile-first UX

  • fast browser interactions

  • shareable ranking results

  • random Pokémon modes

  • generation/type filters

Tech stack:

  • Next.js

  • React

  • TypeScript

  • Tailwind CSS

One interesting thing I’ve learned so far:
“Picker” is actually a much stronger SEO direction than “Draft” for this niche.

For example:

  • “favorite pokemon picker” has very high search demand

  • but extremely low SEO competition

Right now I’m focusing on:

  1. modernizing the UX

  2. improving mobile usability

  3. building a scalable picker ecosystem instead of a single-page novelty tool

Curious if anyone else here has experience building:

  • fan/community products

  • SEO-driven gaming tools

  • lightweight interactive web apps

Would love to hear thoughts or feedback.
