Most moving websites give people a checklist.
At first, I assumed that was enough too.
But after talking to people who were moving, I noticed something interesting: most of them already knew what needed to be done. The problem was figuring out when to do it and what mattered most next.
A moving checklist might have 50+ tasks:
book movers
set up utilities
reserve an elevator
update your address
pack non-essentials
build an essentials box
The list isn't the problem. The timing is.
Someone moving in 70 days has very different priorities than someone moving in 10 days. Someone moving from an apartment with elevator restrictions has different constraints than someone moving between houses.
That's what led me to build MoveBeacon.
Instead of showing a giant list, it creates a personalized move plan based on the move date, home size, moving method, and timeline. The goal is to answer a simple question:
What should I do next?
Along the way I've also found that some of the biggest moving problems aren't the ones people talk about. Things like building requirements, elevator reservations, parking permits, utility timing, and truck sizing often create more stress than packing itself.
I'm still early and actively learning.
For anyone who's moved recently:
What was the thing that caused the most unexpected stress during your move?
I'd love to hear real experiences and see if there are problems I'm still missing.
