Three months ago I started GrowthWithShehroz on YouTube — targeting funded startups that need serious BI and data work done.
Here's what I've learned juggling content creation + full-time consulting across FinTech, HealthTech & SaaS clients:
What content actually works:
The surprising outcome:
YouTube is generating consulting leads, not just subscribers. Two inbound inquiries this month — both funded startups looking for fractional BI help. Neither found me on LinkedIn first.
What I'm still figuring out:
The hardest part isn't filming or editing. It's deciding what NOT to share — client work has to stay confidential, which limits using the best case studies publicly.
The honest reality:
Small channel, growing steadily. But the compounding effect is real — content from 2 months ago is still sending DMs today.
I've packaged my most-covered topics into free resources. If you work with SQL Server, my diagnostic scripts pack catches the most common issues I see in client engagements → https://growthwithshehroz.gumroad.com/l/psmqnx
Anyone else building a consulting pipeline through content? How do you balance "build in public" with client confidentiality?
A confidentiality pattern that has worked well for consultants is to publish the decision framework, not the client facts. Keep names, numbers, and implementation details private, then share the symptom, the diagnostic path, the tradeoff you considered, and a sanitized checklist someone can reuse.
Your query optimization videos seem perfect for this. A short series like how I triage a slow SQL Server query in 10 minutes could preserve confidentiality while still showing how you think. Since the older videos are already generating DMs, I would also ask each new inquiry which specific video brought them in. That should make the next topics much easier to choose.
Do the two inquiries you received point back to the same type of video, or different ones?
