Building on top of ChatGPT

Hi Hacker Community,

I am trying to understand how to conceptualize productization when it comes to ChatGPT.

  • Is it possible to build another product on top of ChatGPT? Are there any good examples? I have seen some plug-ins already in play. But can a completely separate product be built as a white-labeled product?
  • How should one think about product distribution and marketing when a product is built on top of ChatGPT?

    Hey There-
Fellow AI founder here who has been down this rabbit hole-

1.) Is it possible to build another product on top of ChatGPT? Are there any good examples? I have seen some plug-ins already in play. But can a completely separate product be built as a white-labeled product?

Yes, but everyone is doing this right now. Competition is insane. You really need to be more than just a slightly niche version of ChatGPT to be differentiated.

2.) How should one think about product distribution and marketing when a product is built on top of ChatGPT?

You can list your product on sites that are listing AI products. Again there are SO MANY ai products doing this right now.
Other things to do are using social media, but building a presence takes time.

There are plenty of options that you can build over the top of ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is the base layer created by openAI but it takes art to create something great out of it.

We are currently building https://promptsense.co over the top of ChatGPT, Bing, Bard, and Cloude.

Heyo! It's super easy to build on ChatGPT compared to most APIs due to how simple and valuable the service is!

Easiest way to start in my mind is with a no-code tool like Adalo: https://www.adalo.com/

I built an AI in a weekend that was able to lower my businesses profit margins by about 40% (greatly lowered the time and energy it takes to do what we do)

Can you build another product on top ChatGPT? Yes

Are there any good examples? Yep everywhere (I believe most mainstream AI apps are tied to ChatGPT or another similar model)

Can you White-Label? Definitely, ChatGPT charges per words generated so they only really care that people are using the service to interact with the AI and generate responses.

Produt Distribution / Marketing? The same as any other startup except we're in a bit of a hype cycle so the AI communities and such are available to market inside of (though people are saying people are talking about AI less I think what's happening is the "Easy" use cases are becoming known and now people are exploring more with AI to make it more specific than when you think of "normal" ChatGPT use [but TBH ChatGPT is so powerful I think a lot of people just aren't thinking creatively with the prompts])

In summary it's really easy to build a basic ChatGPT app but like any business it's still hard to grow and scale. My advice for anyone interested in building an AI app is to have a problem that you know can be solved by AI. The AI app I'm working on is still very young (2 weeks old) but we have people asking if they can use it and are already making money from it because we know the problem we're solving really well (we made this app for ourselves, but now others want in). Our goal now and where we think we're gonna run into trouble is doing a public launch and transitioning our one-time / contract revenue to monthly recurring revenue

    Hope this helps!
