Hi everyone,
I’m building The Nest, an AI-powered voice journal that helps people understand recurring patterns in their thoughts and experiences.
Most journaling apps focus on recording entries. My goal is to help users gain insights from them.
The project is still early and I’m looking for honest feedback.
What is your biggest frustration with journaling apps?
The thing I'm not sure about is whether the difficult part is helping people capture their thoughts or helping them interpret them.
Reading this, I found myself wondering whether "insights from entries" is something users are actively seeking, or whether it becomes valuable only after a different need has already been satisfied.
Those feel close together, but they could lead to very different ideas about what role the product is actually supposed to play.
That’s a good point.
Over the last few days I’ve been talking to people on Reddit and one thing kept coming up: most people don’t actually struggle with understanding their thoughts first, they struggle with capturing them before they’re gone.
The insights seem to become valuable only after that first problem is solved. So I’m starting to think the product should focus on making capture effortless first, with reflections becoming the long-term value.
Thanks, your comment definitely made me think more about that distinction.
Happy to share.
What's the best email to reach you on? I think it'll be easier to explain the thought properly there.
Thanks! I can’t post my email here because links and contact details get filtered.
You can find it on The Nest website under Imprint. Feel free to email me there, I’d really like to hear your thoughts.
Sent over the fuller thought by email.
Voice journaling is one of those categories where distribution is quiet but trust is everything. People will not speak freely unless they already believe the system is safe and actually useful long term.
Right now the harder problem is not insight extraction, it is getting users to believe the app is worth opening again after day three. Most tools miss that retention credibility gap.
I think you’re right.
I’ve been talking to a lot of people on Reddit recently, and privacy and trust came up over and over again. But another thing I noticed is exactly what you mentioned: people stop journaling because they don’t feel a reason to come back.
That’s why I’m putting more emphasis on weekly and monthly reflections instead of just collecting entries. Hopefully that gives people a reason to return instead of letting their journal become another forgotten app.
Really appreciate the feedback.
