Building Tools for “Enterprise Languages”

I’ve had a hunch for a while there is a huge opportunity to create tools for stuffy enterprise languages, like .NET and Java.

Being a .NET dev who’s been indie hacking on the side for a couple of years, the disparity of Javascript/PHP tools and projects created by individuals compared to Java/.NET is glaring.

You could contribute this to a lack of interest. I believe it is because there are fewer Java/.NET devs indie hacking who would build these things to scratch their own itch.

I decided to test my hunch last week. I quickly spun up a new project: https://dotnetremote.com.

The premise was pretty simple. Post 1 new remote .NET job every day. Nothing fancy, just me manually finding these jobs from companies I’d like to work for.

I launched it on Friday and made a quick post on the dotnet subreddit.

• It quickly became #1 post on the subreddit
• 1.4k page views
• 40 email subscribers. (Even with me having a broken subscribe form for the first 12 hours 🤦)

All in a little over 48 hours.
