I've been talking to small business owners over the last few weeks and noticed a recurring pattern.
When website visitors have questions about pricing, availability, services, appointments, admissions, etc., they often have to wait for someone to respond.
Those questions usually end up being handled through WhatsApp, email, phone calls, or contact forms.
Sometimes they get an answer.
Sometimes they leave.
At first I thought the solution was another AI chatbot.
The more business owners I spoke with, the more I realized most of them don't want a "smart AI assistant."
They want something that:
Answers common questions accurately
Doesn't hallucinate
Doesn't require ongoing AI costs
Captures leads
Stays on-script
So I've been building Uttar — a Website Front Desk powered by a Smart FAQ.
The idea is straightforward:
Learn from the business website.
Build a Smart FAQ from approved business information.
Answer common visitor questions instantly.
Capture leads when needed.
Log unanswered questions so the knowledge base improves over time.
The goal isn't to replace humans.
The goal is to make sure website visitors get answers when nobody is available and help businesses miss fewer opportunities.
One thing I'm still trying to figure out is positioning.
Some business owners see it as:
a support tool
Others see it as:
a lead generation tool
And I'm increasingly wondering whether the real value is simply reducing missed inquiries.
Curious how others here would position something like this.
Would you think of it as:
customer support,
lead capture,
website conversion,
or something else entirely?

Honestly, what would make me hesitate here is that all four interpretations could generate positive feedback.
I've seen founders get stuck because they weren't choosing between a right and wrong position. They were choosing between several positions that all sounded validated for a while.
The expensive mistake isn't usually picking the wrong wording.
It's building the product around the wrong explanation for why people are adopting it.
