Building Weekstart: a Monday checklist for people who run AI agents

I’ve been running agents long enough to dread Monday mornings — not because of the work, but because something in the stack quietly moved over the weekend: a default model flip, a tool-path deprecation, an MCP permission that used to ask and now just… says yes.

So I’m building Weekstart Brief (by Stackyard): a short operator briefing that is not another AI hype firehose.

Each issue is meant to answer one question before coffee cools:

What do I need to set straight in my agent stack before I unlock the week?

Shape so far:

  1. TL;DR for operators
  2. What changed (platform / pattern shifts)
  3. Data structures & schemas to know
  4. Tool & API watch
  5. Monday checklist
  6. Agent-ingest notes (human brief + optional JSON pack for bots)

Issue 1 is free to read in full — primary sources only, must-patch tags, blunt tone:
https://stackyard.fyi/issue-001.html

I’m posting here less to “launch” and more to get format feedback from people who ship:

  • Too dense?
  • Wrong section order?
  • Would you actually run a Monday checklist like this?

If you run agents for work (or you’re building the harnesses), I’d love honest takes.

Appreciate you jumping into the thread. Curious what you run agents for day-to-day — harness work, ops, or something else? If a short Monday operator checklist would help at all, Issue 1 is free: https://stackyard.fyi/issue-001.html

The format is clear, but the real test seems to be repeat use. Have any operators actually used the Monday checklist on more than one week?

    1. 1

Still early days, so I can’t honestly claim repeat use yet — I’m building this in public. My aim is to make week 2 easier than week 1; what would make you actually run it again next Monday? Even one small thing you’d add or cut would help.

      1. 1

The week-2 repeat-use question is the key one. If you’re open to it, what’s the best email to reach you on?

        1. 1

Thanks again for pushing on week-2 reuse — that’s the real test. If you want to compare notes on what actually sticks after Monday, email works: stackyard.weekstart@gmail.com. Free Issue 1 is still the live sample if useful: https://stackyard.fyi/issue-001.html — and free signup is on https://stackyard.fyi if you want the Monday drops without committing to paid.

Thanks — happy to share: stackyard.weekstart@gmail.com. I’m especially curious which week-2 checklist item would make this worth reopening; even a quick “used / skipped / unclear” note would help shape it.

Thanks! I’ve just sent it over.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts whenever you have a chance.

I would keep the Monday checklist, but split it into “must touch before agents run” and “watch this week.” In my own agent workflows, model/API changes matter less than permission changes or silently changed tool paths, because those can turn a safe dry-run into a real side effect.

    1. 1

Your must-touch vs watch split is still sitting in my head. If you had to keep only three lines on a Monday checklist, which three would you refuse to cut? Free Issue 1 is the current sample if you want to stress-test the shape.

Thanks, Gavin — I agree that split is useful. We’re taking that shape seriously: a “must touch before agents run” section for permission changes and tool-path drift, plus a “watch this week” section for the lower-urgency shifts. That distinction between a safe dry-run and an unintended side effect is exactly the kind of operator detail I want the format to surface. If you have one more blunt take on the format, I’m all ears.
