BuildingInPublic - IH or Twitter?

I'd say both? You can add a lot of value here and then turn those posts into content for Twitter.

I'm just starting out on both so I really don't have any insight into either, however personally I can see the value in both.

Example, you create a top tools list relevant to your niche. You could create a post here with additional insight not limited by character count and do a trimmed down version for Twitter.

You really trust IH or Twitter to have one of the most important historical journals of your life's work? Much less a third party startup?

At the very least keep a copy of it in a medium that you own, like your own blog or something.

It depends on the goals. I'd say if you want exposure/eyeballs to potential customers, it is likely you'll get more of this on Twitter because of its reach and algorithm.

If you want a supportive community to go through the struggles, learn, and share experiences, IH is pretty good.

One thing to be careful of is don't use IH for product feedback unless your target customers are exactly the people on IH. You should get this from your potential customers.

I found Twitter a perfect platform for building in public.

You can get the feedback almost immediately unlike IH - if you are lucky enough, your post will be selected as "popular" but I'm not and feel as it's just a waste of time because usually, nobody checks "newest" posts.

Twitter has a great, big, promising, very dynamic #buildinpublic community, so try it out, it doesn't hurt!

Both, I have been able to get feedback for Jem on bot. Twitter has helped create the hype and support, IH has helped me get real deal feedback.

I'd say both if can manage them. IMHO Indiehackers works best for feedback and support. Twitter is more fast-paced but also more suited for finding clients.

Beyond the initial engagement from tweets twitter doesn't allow for content discovery since it disallows indexing of content by search engines like google it has also stopped viewers from viewing the content without login in certain regions. There are too many people who are not there on twitter. Although its not in your list but blogging seems ideal to me with syndication to different social media platforms rather than using social media itself for content.

I think Twitter has better potential, but it's harder to grow than IH. Try both and see what works best for you. Good luck tho!

Use both. As simple as that.

You can start by sharing the same content, and then by time you will have an idea of what content get's the most traction on the 2 platforms, then you can pivot.

I think IH is probably better because of the community, whereas there is a lot of noise on Twitter that ppl need to sift through.
