Hey Indie Hackers 👋 I built ScanStatement because I kept watching bookkeepers re-type transactions from bank statement PDFs that wouldn't export cleanly, old statements, scanned copies, banks with no CSV button at all. It does one thing: drop in a bank statement PDF, get back a reconciled Excel or CSV file. The part I care most about is the reconciliation check, opening balance plus every transaction has to equal the closing balance printed on the statement, or the mismatched rows get flagged. Not a black box. Free for your first 10 pages every month, no card required. Would love feedback, especially on any statement or bank format that trips it up, that's exactly what makes it better.
The reconciliation check is the detail that makes this more than just PDF extraction. Knowing the opening balance plus every transaction has to match the closing balance gives bookkeepers something they can actually trust. ScanStatement feels like it could be pulling in a lot more organic traffic than it probably is right now, especially while you’re still collecting weird bank formats. Have you already found a statement type that breaks it in an interesting way?
The reconciliation check is a nice detail to see called out. I’m curious which bank statement formats have been the most troublesome to handle so far.
