Hey IH! đź‘‹
Just launched FoodLens AI on the App Store and wanted to share my journey with the community.
Scan any barcode and instantly see if a product contains ingredients you want to avoid - seed oils, artificial sweeteners, synthetic dyes, etc. No accounts, no tracking, completely private.
My gut health was a mess until I cut certain additives. As a developer, I was inspired to make this easy on myself and then realized I could make this into an app.
Privacy-first: No sign-ups, no data collection
Customizable "lenses": Focus on what matters to YOU (seed oils, sugar, dyes, etc.)
No judgement or product placement, we don't say that product X is better than Y, we simply scan for ingredients you may not want to be putting in your body!
Community-driven: Users contribute product photos, earn monetary rewards
Live on App Store for a few months
Early traction but need help with growth
Users who find it seem to love it and use it regularly
Revenue is minimal but growing
Building the tech was the "easy" part. Getting it in front of the right people is the real challenge. Health-conscious consumers are passionate but scattered across different communities.
How have you approached marketing health/wellness apps?
Any tips for reaching people with dietary restrictions/food sensitivities?
What would make YOU actually use a food scanning app?
Try it out: Search "FoodLens AI" on the App Store
More info: https://foodlensai-2025.web.app/
Would love any feedback, brutal honesty welcome! And if anyone has ideas for partnerships or growth, I'm all ears.
Building solo but open to finding the right marketing partner to help scale this thing.
Thanks for reading! 🙏
The privacy angle is strong, especially for food data. One thing I’d test: make the first-run experience opinionated around one concrete job, like “avoid seed oils while grocery shopping” or “check if this fits my restriction,” instead of showing all lenses equally. For health/wellness apps, broad positioning gets curiosity installs, but narrow intent is usually what creates repeat use.
Your app looks really clean !
That’s a fantastic idea. My background is sales/marketing. I joined here to learn more about the tech side. I would start with a lot of market research. Who are the businesses that have an audience already that would utilize the app. Ex. Gym owners, health gurus, 30 day challenge people, even healthcare providers. A great software I’ve used before is Apollo. Basically a cheap and high end phone book. The main focus I would look for is partnerships/joint ventures. Affiliates that can do the marketing for you. Then I would use meta ads to drive traffic. Once you become an industry leader, get into the Medicare industry and government contracts. Hopefully that helps!
I just installed and tested it with a couple of barcodes. Works great but it duplicates the info on the package. I think for clueless users it is a great app but if you know a lot about nutrition it is not an eye-opener. I would suggest you to come up with something like a "health score," i.e., something like a number from 0 to 100 showing how bad/good the food is. Clean one-ingredient products would have a score of 100; something crappy would score below 50, or something like that. Than this score would provide some time-saving value for knowledgeable users, and if the score is low, it would prompt any user to look closely and find out what the culprits are...
Overall I think this is a great app, especially the privacy feature.
feels like food scanning done right..
This is such a smart idea – especially the privacy-first angle. So many food scanner apps require accounts or track data, which turns me off completely.
I really like the customizable “lenses” concept too. It’s not about telling people what’s “good” or “bad” – it’s about letting them decide what matters to their own health.
I can see this being super valuable for people with allergies, specific diets, or just trying to avoid certain ingredients. I’ll give it a try and share it with some health-conscious friends. Keep going – this feels like one of those tools that can quietly become part of daily life.
That’s very clever and terrific for people with food allergies.
Your app looks really clean and useful!
I’m building a project that’s in a similar space where user experience is key, and I think there could be a strong overlap in what we’re both working toward.
I’d like to explore whether there’s potential for collaboration. Possibly combining strengths to bring something to market faster and at a bigger scale.
Hey I appreciate that! Sure - happy to explore collaborative opportunities. How do we do this? This is my first time on this app. Is there a way to DM you my contact info?
I’m not sure there is a DM method on here. My email is dishiqllc@gmail we can go from there. Thanks
