Built a Random Pokémon Generator because I couldn't find one that did exactly what I wanted

As a longtime Pokémon fan, I often wanted a way to generate random Pokémon for challenges, team-building ideas, and content creation.

The problem was that most randomizers were either too simple (completely random) or lacked the filters I needed.

So I spent some time building my own: a Random Pokémon Generator with filters for generation, region, type, rarity, forms, stats, and more. It can generate multiple Pokémon at once, supports shiny encounters, and keeps a history of previous results.

One thing I learned from building niche tools is that small communities often have very specific needs. What started as a personal utility became something other Pokémon fans are using as well.

I'd love to hear feedback from fellow makers:

  • How do you validate demand for a niche hobby tool?

  • Have you had success growing products around gaming communities?

Happy to answer any questions about the project or the development process.

I’d be careful validating this like a normal SaaS tool.

For niche gaming tools, “would you use this?” can give a false positive because fans enjoy trying things once.

The stronger question is: what repeat moment makes someone come back?

For Pokémon, that might be challenge runs, team-building prompts, content ideas, shiny/randomizer streams, or community contests. Those are very different growth loops.

Small hint: I’d test creator/community use first, not generic traffic. If a YouTuber, streamer, Discord mod, or challenge-run player can use the generator publicly, distribution becomes part of the use case instead of something separate.

Happy to put a tighter niche validation path in writing if useful.
