Built a real-time aurora forecasting service after watching traditional methods fail for years

Spent 15 years monitoring real-time satellite data as an instrumentation technician. Having watched countless people miss incredible aurora displays because traditional forecasting uses data that's already 3-6 hours old.

I built Aurora Admin, the best aurora forecast app, to fix this. Real-time solar wind analysis sends SMS alerts 30-60 minutes before auroras become visible in your location. Not "maybe tonight" but "look outside in the next hour."

Arguably the biggest challenge has been verifiy the forecast. I have spent sleepless nights monitoring aurora cameras across North America, Europe and Australia to confirm my algorithm actually works. When it says "visible now in Churchill," I checked the Churchill Manitoba Sky cams. Yet to be thorough, I checked all the other skycams I can find as well to see how it works globally. When it predicts nothing, I verify the skies stayed dark.

For other indie hackers in niche markets: how do you handle educating users when the entire industry relies on outdated methods? Finding that balance between "your current solution is broken" and "here's why ours works" without sounding like you're just trashing the competition has been tricky.
