Built a retro-styled blog using Webflow in under 3 days

Hey there 🤙
Want to give a big shout-out to Webflow and the possibilities it unlocks. We managed to completely transform our idea into reality in under 3 days. If you guys haven't tried building using Webflow, you should definitely give it a try.

Beautiful! Even though I don't understand much as my german is lacking a bit :)

If you're into old retro style websites I made a 90s version of my landing page a few months ago: https://90s.wobaka.com/

This looks awesome! I love that this style is slowly coming back :D Also very cool that you have both retro and modern versions of your website - really smart! Did you get any additional attention from this or was it like a passion project?
And thank you 🙌 If you're curious about the content you can also view it in english here: https://en.getsummerrain.de/magazine . It's not perfect yet as it's automatically translated (we still have to manually rewrite a few things), but I hope it gives an idea :)

Cool! Thanks, will check out :)

Haha, yes, actually made front page of reddit, so tons of traffic! Wrote about it here.

Well deserved! Gotta steal your idea and post on reddit too hehe

This is amazing. Thanks for sharing. One thing that I recommend in my guide for bootstrappers is for people to build their MVP as fast as possible and for that they should use a tech stack that would enable it. More and more nocode is proving to be the right tech stack for many indie makers, even if they are developers

Agree with ya! No-code tools are getting more capable each day which allows many ideas to be built way faster than before

    Wow!
This looks really amazing! Even crazier that's done within Webflow.
    Congrats :)

Thank you! 🙌 Yeah Webflow is awesome! It already lets you build almost any idea you have, excited to see where they go in the future :)

Webflow seems like a great product. I have two questions… maybe you can help me :)
Is it truly no-code or rather low-code though?
And do you know how it behaves with multiple languages and corresponding SEO? I heard it has problems there…

A true no-code blog with simple multi-language support and SEO tooling is probably even more easily achieved in Wordpress to be honest. Webflow you still have to 'think like an engineer' at times, even if you don't know how to write code.

Webflow wins when it comes to a customization, but for an out of the box solution Wordpress could probably work better for something like a blog

Webflow is awesome, I was more answering Nyls question, for which I feel my response was fair and relevant. Fwiw you could build what you've made in Wordpress in the same amount of time :)

Anyway, I love the project 👏

            I agree! and thanks :)

      Great questions!
In my experience Webflow is as no-code as it gets. You can build lots of amazing things from landing pages with lots of animations and interactions to blogs and e-commerce websites. You can also add custom code for things that are not natively available in Webflow, but it's very easy to do with scripts from Finsweet and such. We had to add two scripts on this project, one to make divs draggable and another one to put a div in focus once you click on it.
Webflow does not have built-in language switchers and that actually sucks, because it's a highly requested feature. That's also a thing about Webflow, the product is very solid but they take their time shipping new features and they're very selective about it. There are a few third-party services for this, we use one called Weglot. It's a bit buggy sometimes but it's easy to set up and it gets the job done. It covers the SEO part as well, but one thing to keep in mind is that you have to manually add hreflang tags on each page and not simply add it once in the project settings as Weglot says, we wasted a bit of time on this 😅.
Alternatively, if you're looking to build a blog you can create a separate CMS collection for each language which will create duplicate pages, which works for smaller projects, but then you have to make sure you add hreflang manually as well.
Hope this helps! There're some tradeoffs with Webflow but it's totally worth it imo :)

Does it have templates or do you have to design the whole thing yourself?

    1. 1

Both, but I prefer designing myself :)

    Congratulations! This looks great!!
