Built a tool to make kids’ math practice fun

Hey IH community,

I launched a little side project this month called Math4Fun — it generates math worksheets based on a kid’s favorite topic (soccer, unicorns, dinosaurs, etc.).

I came up with the idea while helping my kids with math. When the problems involved something they loved, they suddenly stopped complaining and actually engaged with the work. That was the aha moment.

MVP:
– Angular + .NET 8 backend
– Select grade level & interest
– Generate PDF worksheets instantly (currently free)

Next steps I’m considering:
– Adding user accounts & progress tracking
– More problem types & mixed topics
– Premium version with custom themes

Challenges:
– Balancing B2C (parents) vs B2B (schools/teachers)
– Finding low-cost marketing channels that aren’t pure ads
– Making it sticky enough for repeat use

I’d love to hear your thoughts on:

Would you go after parents first or teachers first?

Any creative growth strategies you’ve seen work for education tools?

What would make you pay for something like this?

Love the premise, Jani , you’re basically hacking intrinsic motivation for math. On the B2C vs B2B question: parents give you faster yes/no decisions but churn quicker; teachers take longer to adopt but bring whole classrooms and tend to stick. I’d probably start with parents for quick traction + social proof, then pivot messaging for teachers. For growth, I’ve seen ‘print-at-home’ challenges work e.g. themed week-long math adventures with shareable certificates - gives parents brag rights and creates organic reach. On the pay side, I’d happily pay if it also tracked progress and adapted difficulty over time. How hard would it be to make the worksheets gradually level up as kids improve?

      Hi there,

      Thanks for comment and suggestions!

I built this tool first to help myself, because when my two kids (8yo and 10yo) were expecting a math test It was hard to motivate them to take a study, so I wrote them a practice test by hand. My oldest one plays soccer and I made him a test that was soccer oriented. I couldn't belive how motivated he was. I did this a couple of times and eventually got frustrated because each test took me about an hour to make, so I made this tool to make things easier.

About B2C or B2B you're absolutely right! B2C will be faster to get feedback, but B2B will pay more and churn less.

About your suggestions.. They are great! I will try to implement them as paid features:

      • progress tracking with graudally raising difficulty
      • sharable & printable certificates when a kid goes to a next level

Thank you again for your comment and I would be very grateful If you could spread a word about Math4Fun :)

Love the origin story, you clearly built it with real needs in mind, and that shows.
Glad my suggestions resonated, and the planned features sound spot-on for keeping kids motivated.
Looking forward to seeing Math4Fun grow!
