Built a weird little “file corrupter” tool – people actually use it 😅

I’ve been working on a tiny, niche tool called CorruptAFileOnline.com – a free utility that purposely corrupts files in the browser so you can download a broken/unreadable version. It sounds silly at first, but there are real use cases:​

• Students and office workers testing “deadline emergency” scenarios.​

• Developers/QA engineers who need corrupted samples to test how their apps handle broken files.​

• Teachers/trainers who want example files for data recovery or cybersecurity classes.​

How it works: you upload a video, PDF, PPT, ZIP/RAR, audio, image, Word or Excel file, click one button, and instantly get back a corrupted version. No server-side storage – everything happens client-side for privacy. It’s intentionally simple: one page, one main action, fast result.​

Why I built it:

• I like small, focused tools that solve oddly specific problems and can rank for long-tail keywords.​

• It’s a fun playground to practice SEO, landing-page copy, and short-form content (reels/shorts) to see if a tiny utility can grow just from organic + social.​

• Long term, I want this to be a monetizable asset (ads/affiliates) or something I can eventually flip once it has stable traffic.​

Right now I’m:

• Iterating on copy and FAQs to better explain legitimate use cases (testing, QA, education, not anything shady).​

• Experimenting with Instagram/YT reels like “how to corrupt a video file online” to see what kind of audience it attracts.​

I’d love feedback on:

• Positioning: Does this come across as a serious testing/education tool or just a meme site?​

• Growth ideas beyond SEO and short-form content.

• Any similar tools you’ve built that started as “joke” utilities but turned into real traffic or revenue.
