Built an AI Resume Analyzer as a College Student. Looking for Feedback.

Hi everyone,

I’m a 2nd-year college student from India and over the last few months, I noticed a common problem among students around me.

Many were applying for internships and jobs but had no idea why they weren’t getting interview calls.

Most of them had decent skills, projects, and grades, but their resumes had basic mistakes they didn’t even know about.

So I decided to build Fresherr.

Fresherr is an AI-powered resume analyzer that helps students and freshers:

• Check ATS compatibility
• Identify resume mistakes
• Get actionable feedback
• Improve resumes before applying

I’m building it as a solo founder alongside college and would genuinely love feedback from the Indie Hackers community.

Website:

https://fresherr.in

A few questions:

  1. What is the most frustrating part of building a resume?

  2. Do you find ATS scores useful?

  3. What feature would make a tool like this more valuable?

Any feedback, criticism, or suggestions are welcome.

I like that you started from a problem you were actually seeing around you instead of building something first and then trying to find a problem for it. One thing I’d be interested in as a user is making sure the feedback goes beyond just giving me an ATS score. I’d want to know exactly what I should change, why it matters, and what I should prioritize first. I’m building my first product as a student too and I’m at the stage of trying to get real people to test it, so I definitely relate to this part of the process. I’d be happy to check Fresherr out and give you some feedback.

Fellow 2nd year college student building in public here, love you idea the fact that you shipped this.
This is genuinely a good product for a lot of people who don't have good grip or knowledge about how to make a good CV.
Also one thing i wanted to add is that although AI builds everything and anything you ask it to build but it never handles well is security. Exposed keys, broken auth, missing rate limiting. That's why to handle this issue, I built VaultScan, it's an AI cybersecurity scanner that scans your GitHub repo or website and proves a well detailed report listing every single problem and guide to solve it once and for all. I'll be happy to run a free scan on Fresherr if you're interested.

    Anyway, great idea and product.
    Have a nice day!

Useful problem, especially for students applying without knowing why their resume is getting ignored.

I’d be careful not to position Fresherr only around “ATS score” though. Most students do not really understand ATS deeply. They care about one clearer outcome: “why am I not getting interview calls?”

That might be the stronger promise.

Instead of leading with resume analysis, I’d test messaging around:

“Find the resume mistakes costing you internship callbacks.”

That feels more urgent and easier for students to understand than generic resume feedback.

Feature-wise, I’d focus less on adding more checks and more on giving a clear before/after improvement path: what to fix first, why it matters, and how it improves interview chances.

Thanks, that's actually a really good point.

I think I've been focusing too much on the ATS score because it's an easy metric to show, but you're right — most students don't wake up thinking about ATS, they just want to know why they're not getting interview calls.

I really like the idea of shifting the messaging towards identifying the mistakes that are holding them back rather than just giving a score.

The before/after improvement path is something I'm actively thinking about as well. Instead of just telling users what's wrong, helping them understand what to fix first and the potential impact of those changes would probably be much more valuable.

Appreciate the feedback. This gives me a lot to think about as I continue improving Fresherr.

        Exactly.

The ATS score can still be useful, but I’d treat it as the proof layer, not the main promise.

The student-facing promise should probably be closer to: “Here’s why your resume is not getting callbacks, and here’s what to fix first.”

That gives the product more urgency because it connects directly to the pain students already feel.

I’d also test the first version with a very narrow group: students applying for internships who have already sent 20 to 50 applications and received little or no response. They will feel the problem much more sharply than students casually improving a resume.

I can put together a short written breakdown for Fresherr: sharper positioning, first student segment, landing page angle, outreach message, and a simple validation plan.

Share your email if you want me to send the details privately.
