Solo dev from Lyon here. Just shipped DishRank, an app that flips the food review model.
The problem: a restaurant can be 4.2★ on Google but you have no idea which dish on the menu is the one worth ordering. Average ratings are useless for the actual question you're trying to answer.
DishRank rates each dish individually. The top of Lyon right now: a 4.8★ smash burger at a place where the tartare is rated 2.1. Same restaurant, opposite verdicts.
Bonus — it's also a tool for group decisions. Add friends, share favorites, and when someone says "we should go out Friday",
the app:
• Lets the group vote on the type (resto / bar / café)
• Calculates the geographic midpoint between everyone's location
• Surfaces the best dishes from your shared favorites at that midpoint
Stack: Next.js + Supabase web, React Native + Supabase mobile. Live on iOS, open beta on Android. ~30 dishes rated in Lyon so far, actively pushing on the local community side.
Happy to share what's working and what's not.
Dish-level rating is a much clearer wedge than another restaurant directory. For local growth, I’d probably seed one tight category first, like “best burger in Lyon” or “best lunch near Part-Dieu”, and make a shareable ranking page out of it. The group midpoint feature sounds useful, but the dish-specific rankings are probably the hook that gets strangers to care.
