Built my landing page, what do I do next?
Hey Guys!
I just built my landing page for my side project, which is a job board for student designers. (https://www.portfolioprojects.co/)
I tried posting on reddit hoping to get a few pre-launch email subscribers but that didn't work as most people reacted negatively towards the post.
I'm a bit stuck as I do not know what I should be doing in order to gain some pre-launch traction to my site.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! 😀

Also don't rush your launch and put maximum effort into every platform you are launching on. Some other small outlets to start on: https://betapage.co/, https://10words.io/
I'd also put some more info on your landing page. Why is your solution going to stand out against the competition? What's your unique angle, ... When Landing pages have as little content as yours does now, I'm quick to dismiss it as not really serious. That might just be me tho.

I'll definitely add some more content to the landing page, I just wanted to get something minimal and basic up at the start, but I agree with what you are saying. :)
If you're trying to build "a job board for student designers" you need to make that clear. Nothing above the fold on your site says "job board" or "for student designers".
Also, cut that mound of text at the top in half (at least) and add a headline (h1, h2) (50 characters or less) that sums up your site.
Lastly, make that button in the top-right corner a conversion button. "Contact" is vague and off-message.
I do like the idea and aesthetic though. You just need to make your value proposition much clearer.
Some more thoughts: You need to get into the head of a student designer. If I were a student designer, I would want to know things like A. Will I be paid for this work? B. Will there be a lot of opportunities to work? C. What type of work will I be doing (i.e logos, typography, mockups, full sites)?

Actually it's interesting, but I will wait for the final lunch :).
Also maybe clarify better if the posting is free or not. For my first read I was like $100 for posting to a site without any proven traffic? And in reality it's just a minimum fee for the student job, right?

There will be a fee for posting a listing (not sure how much yet) and the $100 im talking about is the minimum amount a business can offer a design student for their services. :)
Different subreddits react very differently to posts, especially if they are promotional. Which subreddits are you posting to, and which subreddits do you think your potential users would be at?
I was posting in the business owners and small businesses, because I think that's where my target audience would be.
Maybe provide the link to your reddit post for us to take a look? In my opinion, the audience on Reddit can be really harsh at times. You need guts of steel to post there. :)
Literally indiehackers is the only nice place, unless you're making something perfect and free and revolutionary.

Why did they react negatively? You don't want to just post things out there and say go here. Sites like quora, stack exchange, reddit, are ok as long as you provide helpful advice and don't just seem self serving.
Also you might want to add a main headline to the top with a big why they should be signing up statement (ie, whats in it for them). Also more samples or ideas of how this would work would be good to add.

I had no idea why the response was so negative, I didn't just plug the website and say here you go, I asked them what issues did they have when looking for designers/agencies to create websites and/or logos. I didn't even mention my site I only linked it at the bottom of the post.
