Built proposal software for Event Businesses. Looking for landing page feedback

https://www.dottieandco.com

Howdy IH,

Me and my wife have been working on Dottie (https://www.dottieandco.com) since the start of the year. We've managed to gain a few users. Mainly friends who we know in the event industry already (this is where the idea stemmed from).

We're going to start selling to people we don't know soon so we upgraded our homepage and we are looking for feedback.

Here are some questions for you:

  • Do you know what this product does just by looking at the homepage?

  • Is all the content legible and readable to you?

  • Is the page overall to white lol? We wanted to keep it as simple as possible but we feel like it may be too white.

  • What recommendations would you have to this homepage?

Add a link for your testimonial, preferably her website. It's usually the first thing I check, right now it seems that everybody has amazing testimonials, so without a link, I don't trust them.

Good idea - will definitely do that! Thanks

    Some quick wins

    • Remove all the links from the navbar, just leave login and change sign up to a CTA such as "Start Now"
    • In the hero change the CTA to "Get Started Now" or something similar
    • On phone that image isn't viewable, either have two images or swap it out
    • Remember to sell benefits not features "Create Stunning Proposals" can be changed to "Impress clients", "Build Out Payment Schedules" to "Stress Free Payments" etc
    • Love the examples
    • Why 30 day trial?
    • "Have questions? Get in touch" check our FAQ or contact us now

Some quick questions for you :)

    • Did you use a template?
    • If so did you buy it or was it free?
    • Did you use a landing page builder?
    • If so which one?
    • What was the biggest problem you had creating the landing page?

Thanks, and look forward to your answers

      Thanks for the response @volkandkaya.

As far as the "sell benefits not features" - do you recommend tailoring all the content around that? Or should I just have a list of benefits below the main header image?

      Answers for you!

      • I designed the page myself, but the actual components are from https://leap.mediumra.re/ - I don't really use the overall designs of pages they have, but use a lot of the components and elements to stick to my own design.
      • Paid - well worth it. I'm a software developer by trade but for personal side-projects - why bother building out your own stuff when you have to move fast.
      • No landing page builder. Built it out myself.
      • The biggest problem by far is actually figuring out how to display my content. What I mean is that I have all the benefits of why my software will help Event Companies - but often times I'll struggle like should I put images here, quotes here, CTA's here. Hope this helps.

But regardless, thanks for you answers! If you have any follow up on my answers, let me know! Happy to help because I see you run your own product Versoly.

if you have time you can read https://www.julian.com/guide/growth/landing-pages

Your goal is to convert visitors to customers, thinking in terms of how it will benefit the visitor then adjusting the copywriting to reflect that should increase conversions.

Thanks for the answers, very insightful. I had the same problem with my last startup, So I decided to build Versoly to fix my problem.

Versoly is made with prebuilt blocks so you know exactly where images, quotes and CTAs should go.

That's a lovely design. Not too white for me, for sure. It communicates delicateness and thoughtfulness and clarity, which I think are coherent with the app's purpose itself.

To sharpen the effectiveness of the page, I'd suggest trying to answer these three questions:

    1. What’s it like before I come looking for this website? (What situation are they in for which this app would be putting out a fire?)
    2. What does the back-and-forth look like in the mind of the visitor? (do they say to themselves "oh I'll just continue doing it myself")
    3. What thoughts come up as the visitor scrolls down the page?

There was another site for which I applied these three questions and suggested another structure to the page, so if that can help, here's the link:
    https://sharpen.page/jtbd/copywriting/how-can-i-improve-landing-page-without-too-much-effort/

In your case, I'd see adding a text-only section right after the big screenshot at the top describing the cumbersome mish-mash of a setup they probably have that they'd want to move away from, the "pain" they'd want to part with. Maybe they feel their proposals are the last place where they just don't look professional enough, unlike everything else in their practice which they'd tried to shape up. They went looking for [proposal template] in Google, and fell on your site. That price was worth the time saved designing their own template.

Would that be the situation your customers would be trying to move away from?

Thanks for all this @pascallaliberte! I try to put myself in the shoes of the user, but never even thought about comparing the old vs this app in terms of putting it on my landing page. Kinda just assumed users would think that way but now that you mention I don't think they would.

And the situation we've seen over and over, is other applications either being too complicated and away too many features, or they don't have features that are relevant to the "Events Industry". So for example, event rental companies (companies that offer seats, tables, silverware - all that jazz) often need to reflect their proposals against their inventory. Because they'll have booked two events on the same day. So they need to make sure that they have the items available. Our application solves this.

But regardless, very much appreciated response and will definitely take a look at the blog post!

        Oh thanks for writing back.
Yeah landing pages often just communicate the "what it is", "what it does", benefits and objections. But also communicating the "you understand what I'm going through!!!" makes the visitor feel understood.

But not all pains are salient enough to make the person put aside everything else on their todo list to start searching for something on Google or asking around. Of all the pains you could be communicating on that page, I'd try to go with those situations that are just too much to continue with, if you have any you can put into words.

"Ugh, I don't want to have to track my inventory separate from my bloated proposal software."

I which case they might try google for [rental inventory management] and find nothing...

Don't know if I get their situation quite right, but yeah, something like that.

I really like the white, and the clean design aesthetic overall.

Honestly, I don't know a lot about how the workings of the 'events industry' in detail, but I believe your service is similar, or goes in parallel to, something like invoice tracking? If you could describe some of the differences between the two, that would surely give me greater clarity...

Overall, I enjoy the idea and the execution of the landing. I feel like what needs to be done to make it greater though, would be to focus more on exactly what you're trying to get new visitors to do. It's a beautiful site, and the main product is simple enough, but I don't know if you wanted me to spend time browsing the website to learn more, go through the examples (which are kind of all the same?), or actually sign up and do something.

In the end, I was really curious to see how simple creating a 'proposal' might be, but the signup process stalled me as I couldn't go in w Google/FB/Twitter off the bat, and when I did enter an email, I had to wait for confirmation...

    .02 cents. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks @Polo - You are definitely right. I think I need to make the homepage have one "action item" instead of having three or four.

As far as the proposal idea, never thought about that. Will take some re-engineering but definitely would be awesome to play with before even signing up.

Thanks for all this. Much appreciated!

I added it to the project i'm currently working on. Problem is you don't get emails so you can't get feedback. At your current stage I think just stick with email login.
