Business Review Platform for India

Hello IHers,

I've been toying with an idea, and would love to get thoughts from this group.

I will try to do this via a story, so bear with me:
--
My car (let's say a Honda) had been giving me a lot of trouble - it starts normally some times, but doesn't at other times. On rare ocasions, it will stop in the middle of the road, but take 45 seconds to restart.

I am not a car expert, but I am also not an amateur and can tell an issue from a non issue. When this continued to happen on and off for about a month, I knew something was wrong.

Finally, on a Saturday I decided to get it fixed.

But the question is how do I know what is wrong? Or how do I know where to take ? I know there a few car repair/mechanic shops around me. But they all look very worn down. I could send it to the Honda service center, and be ready to pay a bomb.

I visit a few - try to ask what's wrong. Most of them recommend to leave my car for a few days for them to test and find the root cause.

At this stage, I am confused and scared to trust any of my options.

This is just one of the many cases when I need a product or service, and being in India it becomes hard to find the right/trustworthy provider.

A few that come to mind:

  1. Petrol pump (with tire air filling, or with pollution check, etc)
  2. Salons (with customer testimonials, customer pics)
  3. Music instruments repair/buying
  4. Grocery stores
  5. Gardener
  6. Fresh vegetables vendor

What if there was an easy to use platform that would help me find the best of x near me. Where the listing is created by the owner, but it is rated/reviewed by other users like me.

Pros:

  1. For users - A platform that helps me find the best of x based on reviews, ratings, accurate information from the business owner
  2. For businesses - a platform that allows me to get some visibility in front of potential users

Cons

  1. Is this the same thing a google business? Yes and NO
Google business information and reviews are not accurate nor fresh. Also, it's focused for slightly more organised and digital businesses in nature

  2. What about urban clap - they have reviews too
Urban clap is no longer a business directory, but more a services provider

  3. Is this what justdial does?
Yes, but in a way that is meant for humans to use. With accurate information, reviews, and a good easy to understand design.

So that's it - trying to understand if there's value in a business listing platform that allows users and businesses to find each other with ease and based on trust worthy reviews and business information.

Let me know what you think.

My sense is the key product problem to solve here is growth and getting the listings. In JD they had a field force (as far as I know) to build a supply.

I definitely agree that google maps, JD do not solve the problem completely in helping me find the right service provider. However, it works good enough coz they have supply (I don't use JD, but I do use google maps extensively coz I find the map interface very easy and I keep going back to it).
