Sending a regular newsletter is a great forcing function for improving writing quality. When I started writing, I wasn't worried whether my ~10 subscribers appreciated the content or not.

3000+ subscribers (& some familiar names) later, I definitely get nervous before sending...

I found the same with blogging in the mid-2000s. It was amazing how many comments a site with even a few hundred visitors a day would generate, and often from people who knew me and wanted more updates.

I never really got into newsletters, so just signed up for yours to see what it's like.

Putting your work on display publicly is great for forcing your hand at a lot of things. In the early days of IH I would work crazy hard every week so I'd have some impressive progress to share before the next newsletter. I'd send them out on Thursday mornings, so I pulled more than my fair share of all-nighters on Wednesdays. 😅

The one skill I always see in successful people is consistently turning up - it's literally 75% of the solution IMHO. Bravo for turning up every week :)

Not just for writing. My newsletter is curated, so I don't have to write every week. Just reading over 100 articles about my industry has helped me gain an entirely new perspective in the past year that I've been doing it.
