Can a fashion e-commerce startup be labeled as a tech company?

It probably has characteristics of a tech company such as AI, Big Data, VR, and etc.....but at its core they are just selling items

It depends but I’d say if you’re using tech to change the game, go for it.

I worked for a grocery delivery company using AI to eliminate food waste and we were label a tech company

    Yes.

David Chang, a chef with a Netflix series, talked about dominos being a tech company. Dominos is a pizza company, but its hard not to notice how they nailed the logistics of pizza delivery with their app, which tracks their very efficient ordering process.

One company in Germany went this route: Zalando.

They employ thousands of tech workers these days and have several product lines.

It's hard to not be a tech company in the modern world. You will probably have a online website, use delivery tracking system, accepts online order. That's enough to be a tech company so with AI, Big Data, VR definitely yes.

Have you heard of Beauty Pie? They sell products at cost and make money by a paid subscription plan to have access to it.
