Can a list of curated jobs be helpful?

Created a webapp for curated jobs, by industry experts: https://jobscurated.com.

Companies can post a job opening. These openings get reviewed by experts. These experts are not your normal recruiters. They are qualified for the jobs they are vetting.

    Hello @d1gits

First and foremost, I really like the space and we're currently working on something in this particular space. Feel free to reach out I would love to discuss more with you.

    Comments :

    • It seems to me when I read the description that you're in the company curation business not the actual job curation ? It seems like the corporate culture or the compensation is more a company wide evaluation than a specific job evaluation.

    • I am curious to know if some companies would be willing to submit their job posts without being sure that it will be accepted, or with the risk that it could be rated lowly. + knowing that you won't have much traffic at the beginning, you may not yield a lot of applicants.

    • It will also pose the question of the criteria determined to vet the jobs. I don't personally believe that you can rate corporate culture from 1 to 5, the best company cultures are quite strong and would IMO always be 5 stars for the right kind of people and significantly less stars for the other kind of people. Instead of putting stars it would be more helpful to describe what's the culture, what is the career path expected, how the work life balance is reflected, etc... so that each applicant has a better idea if this is the right place for them.

    • Are we sure that highly skilled job experts are the best people to curate a job ?

    • Is the business model is to get $1 per job posting ? Is that a sound pricing model ? If it's curated platform, I am assuming there will be less jobs compare to traditional websites, and charging $1 for a reduced number of postings, I don't believe this will work.

    • One of the key, would be trust, if you can establish trust in your ratings/ curation system .Honestly, it may even work better as an emailing list, where some developers would give you their preferences, and you can send them a list of curated jobs regularly based on their preferences, and get some jobs sponsored by companies.

Based on your feedback I've created the following tasks:

      • Clarify that it’s about job curation
      • Better specify review criteria to reflect jobs over companies
      • Move away from starred reviews or at least explain how you get to them
      • Reconsider the features that are reviewed
      • Clarify that the $1 price is a temporary offer
      • Add an option to opt-in for a mailinglist to test the mailinglist idea

Do you thin those are correct or would you suggest to pivot all together?

Additionally: how would you prioritise the above list, and do you have additional tasks you'd like to see?

        Hello,

When I say job curation vs company curation. Here is my approach :
Do you guys see it as : "In some companies some jobs are better than others, so we only accept the best job opportunities and decline the others one, even though it's from the same company " or " We believe some companies are better than others so we only accept job offers from the best companies "

It's hard to suggest a pivot without seeing it through, but companies will see this as a distribution channel for their jobs, so it has to lead to more applicants / better quality of applicants, or a better form of recognition, etc...

      Hi Ibrakadabra,

Thanks for the extremely insightful comment! Most of these points are exactly the points I'm considering myself. Let me elaborate:

It seems to me when I read the description that you're in the company curation business not the actual job curation?
I am curious to know if some companies would be willing to submit their job posts

Makes sense, some points are definitely company wide. Salary is determined partly objective and partly on the discretion of the reviewer. I feel it might be good to create an explanation page on how the scores come about, to make it feel less like a crapshoot.

it would be more helpful to describe what's the culture, what is the career path expected, how the work life balance is reflected, etc...

Makes sense, I've thought about that too, the main value creation would be to save people time on their process. Searching trough an ordered list does that, that's why I held on to it so strongly. Maybe it's possible to make it more hybrid. e.g. 2-3 sentences why someone rated a certain way.

It will also pose the question of the criteria determined to vet the jobs.

This is wat I've been struggling with the most. Determining the features to rate a job on and a if it should be objective or subjective. If it's objective, there's definitely no need to rate it manually, but then it's hard to determine the additional value.

Are we sure that highly skilled job experts are the best people to curate a job ?

No, we're definitely not the hypothesis is that a review by a peer can help you better weed out the bad positions. The problem here is that it's largely subjective, what's good for one person's career path might not be good for someone else's, and someone may like a certain corporate culture and someone else might not like it.

Is the business model is to get $1 per job posting ?

I did that to see if people are willing to draw a creditcard. the idea is to gradually increase the price once it attracts more users.

One of the key, would be trust, if you can establish trust in your ratings/ curation system.

Would it help to have an explanation page as to how the ratings come about?

    Hey @d1gits,

I agree with @ibrakadabra 's comment about trust in ratings. I would try establishing trust as a core value of the model. Recruiters should feel no doubt about any connection between the reviewer and the applicant.
