Can anyone help with credit card payments being declined?

We have recently started taking subscription payments (B2C based in the UK) and quite a high percentage of these are being declined after their free trial ends (at least 25%).

We are using Chargebee and Stripe.

Some of these are due to 'insufficent funds' but most are just generic 'declined'

Is this normal and is there anything that can be done about it?
