Hello everyone! It's my first post in this forum, and I kinda need your help.
As a college student i intend to curate valuable resource that would be helpful for other students. But, you know, as a student, I don't have the budget to spend my money on the thing I wanna build, because I am also willing to do it for free.
So, can anyone tell me how I can build a directory/listing site for free? So far, the concept will be similar to curation/inspiration sites like lapa.ninja or a niche job board site like startup.jobs. I am thinking of Notion, but feel like Notion is not customizable enough. So, I am open to different options right now.
Thanks!
Hey Naufan!
Based off your post, it sounds like Glide Apps, Adalo, Bubble, and Airtable are all great, and easy-to-use options.
Glide, Airtable, and a few others allow you to get apps off the ground for free. Two years ago I built a directory/community using Glide for a niche I enjoy and the app gathered 10,000 users in 48 hours. So definitely able to scale nd validate the concept.
Indeed, I really need to validate the idea first. I'm planning to try Glide first now. Thank you so much for the suggestions!
Hey Naufan, sounds like a cool project. Give Cogniflow a look, a newcomer in the No Code AI builders, it proves useful, especially for beginners, it offers a free plan to get some models started, 50 predictions, and 5 trainings, and also comes with a dozen pre-trained models running smoothly. https://www.cogniflow.ai/pricing hope to hear more about the directory, cheers
You might wanna try this Frontlyapp for front-end and a custom back-end. Demo apps: https://www.frontlyapp.com/?r=ih
I built this website using no code tools, and it's free.
I used softr.io and Airtable.
I definitely will try Softr.io, since a lot of people recommend it. Thank you so much for the suggestion!
Hello Naufan,
the first question you need to ask is if you want your own custom domain, or if you are happy with a subdomain. And the second is how many resources you will curate.
For own domain I think softr (in combination with airtable) is best, I remember their limit is 200 rows. (with a little 'made with softr icon) You can also use the free odoo website builder with custom domain and then embed an airtable table or google sheets.
With subomain you can also use pory (airtable) and spreadsimple (google sheets).
Good luck, keep us posted!
Thank you so much for breaking down what I should consider first! For now, I only think about having 15-50 resources (rows), so it would be really helpful for me when it’s time to scale up.
Happy to help. Here is a link to the post website builder which is as good as WIX, WordPress for normal websites. They even offer you a .com domain for free

That's interesting! If you're looking to build custom web apps for your business or personal use, I highly suggest this Frontlyapp, a no-code front-end development software. I’ve been using it for a long while now and it helps me to be more efficient and scale faster. Check demo apps here: https://www.frontlyapp.com/?r=ih
Thank you so much for the suggestion! How long is the demo for Frontly? Or is there any trial?
Hi there! You can actually set up your app for free and only pay when you're ready to publish.
You might want to have a look at Airtable and Softr.io.
Use Airtable as your Database and Softr.io to build a frontend.
Whoa, Softr.io would be really helpful with their template for directories. Thank you so much for the suggestions!
