Can I help anyone with their demos?

I've worked at few startups ranging from early seed stages to unicorn status in pre-sales roles.

Founders often struggle with demoing their product and there are definitely some key things to keep in mind to avoid getting into a feature dump versus leading with value first.

Drop your product link and something you're struggling with, I'll provide how I'd demo your product!

Mine is Pleke a personal finance app for android and iOS.

What I want to sell is a simple way to people make and stick to a budget, stop living paycheck to paycheck and save at least 10% of monthly income to build up an emergency fund. Mainly the basic steps of personal finance education.

Trouble is the amount of effort they must endure to get the first results, configuring accounts, budget items and manual input of transactions. I want to sell the manual input as a benefit to keep close track of balances and budget available.

That's why my niche is people with a costly pain: crippling debt who want to change their habit to get rid of it.

Definitely an interesting problem to be approaching.

So in terms of pitching your value, are you offering a way to manage their budget or remove debt? That second part is difficult to control through just an app and requires drastic life style changes.

If you can instead spin a way for your app to allow to understand that they can:

      1. See all of their expenses (from subscriptions/credit cards/ e-transfers/etc in a single place
      2. Get insights into what they spend by category and compare historically to know when they're overspending

And then create features that can provide additional benefits that go beyond such as:

      1. Introduce some gamification concepts to create high scores/streaks when they save a certain amount as instant gratification
      2. Allow them to see the impact of saving on their retirement and credit scores

I think this would be a lot stronger offering and value proposition to really attract and make it juicy for customers to sign up!

By the way, take a look at these guys for inspiration and how they pitch their value: https://mint.intuit.com

Mint messaging is great, thanks I'll study it!
I niched down to people who are in debt and want to change the situation. So my app acts as a behavior improvement tool, whereas the person makes a budget with a goal to save 10% of income to pay off debt.

I struggle a bit with demos/sell pitches because it has two main values:

    1. Affiliate program solution
    2. Marketplace where affiliates can discover your app

And I'm not always sure what to focus on.

Can I pose a back? It might help us get some clarity and reach an answer

      1. What is the biggest pain you think you're solving?
      2. And what group are you solving this for?

There is nothing wrong with marketing to two different profiles but better to focus on the biggest group with the largest pain that you're able to solve.

        Thanks for the help.

        1. Customer acquisition for Shopify apps
        2. Shopify apps owners

I like the pain point. Anytime you can help someone make more money, it's always a good problem to be solving.

If you keep that in mind, I would ideally just focus on that problem and not worry about affiliate part of it.

So ideally your pitch and value selling should be focusing on a message that basically says to other app owners about how you can increase their customer base. People usually make the mistake of focusing on their solution versus the problem they're solving.

If you focus on that, it should make your selling more straight forward without getting stuck on which value is better.

I'll keep that in mind, cheers!

I'll drop it, but the "to unicorn status on pre-sales roles" is kinda overwhelming for my product

I'm struggling: with the copy and converting users

Actually I saw the Lancey product, is that yours? I was thinking in add a demo on the landing page, I was thinking to use proto.io or marvelapp, but I wasn't really sure, I'm pretty curious if lancey can help me with that, cheers!

      Hey Victor,

Productivity tools targeted for B2C are always a challenge. The market is massive but also very crowded.

Firstly, the website animations are making it seem like the website is very slow when in fact its mostly the animations that might make it feel that. Have you played around with reducing or removing them (similar to how you have it on mobile?)

Also in B2C space where you won't have an active sales team, the closer you get your customers to your product the better. Instead of screen shots, is there a way you can just show a quick gif or product demo of your product in action? [Would love to get you free access to Lancey as part of our public beta]

You want someone to feel the experience of sorting, adding and grouping their bookmarks live instead of having to sign up and go through the process of adding another add-on to their browser.

Good thing is your product is very easy to understand. If you make the visuals clear and clean up the performance/animations, you'll be in a much better spot.
