Can you get to 100 paying users with $0?

I'm getting the impression there are no free marketing channels anymore. It costs $ to get paying users.

Anyone here got to 100 paying users with $0? Is it doable? Do you know someone who did it?

You don't need to spend anything. Tweet daily, grow your audience there.

Setup a mailing list and provide useful free information, I've often ended up paying for things this way.

Post content on YouTube leaving calls to action to your site.

Setup a blog and aim for long tail SEO.

Contact other sites to guest blog.

While doing all of the above, contact potential customers directly and have a chat!

Last summer I was working on a SaaS for pet lovers. I tried to identify my target audience, obviously they were hanging in the parks it was hard to find them online. So I went to a park, sit there about an hour, found a few people running their dogs around, followed them to their home and knocked the door. When they open, I threaten them to register for my app, now I have 36 customers and 12 years in jail.

I'm not sure what were those free marketing channels before and what's free basically. But it's possible for you to try and sell your app to me right here, right now.

I think those channels growing each day, create an account on instagram to sell "designer" bags, a tiktok account to sell fitness bars, a twitter account to sell books. You name it.

As long as you can keep people using their apps, they'll favor you and let you do your own marketing without spending a dime. Indiehackers included. Start your newsletter here and take it on another level elsewhere.

Influencer marketing, if the invested time considered free then it's free.

Scrape your competitor's mail list, instagram followers, twitter likes, pitch them your idea for free.

There has to be effort and that effort has a cost, not necessarily monetarily. It's an option to choose to pay or DIY.

Absolutely! As some have already mentioned, building an audience can work for you and so can content marketing, if you're willing to give it some time.

Another, too often overlooked approach is direct sales. Depending on your target market it can be a great fit, especially for B2B SaaS. I've recently written a guide on how to validate ideas and get your first customers with cold email. You can check it out here if you want: https://blog.wobaka.com/how-to-validate-ideas-and-get-your-first-customers/

Nice article! I like to include a bit of variety in my follow up emails, in order to reduce 'Spaminess'. Other than that, really agree with your approach. I really like how direct your first email is - I probably beat around the bush a bit too much.

I appreciate you not pushing Wobaka until the very end! The Wobaka home site looks great.

I think the most important is to find that early birds that will join you without any marketing and they will pay for the product value

One word - Content Marketing. Write, write, write. Research keywords, go for keywords below 60 KD, and write about it. Do everything you can to learn about SEO and how to target your keywords. Yes, it takes time (it took me 10 months of writing 6 posts/month for Google to send me good traffic).

Of course, you could argue that this is not exactly getting users with $0 because you are working on it and that counts as $...
