Can you help me with my Travel App side project strategy?

Hi!

I have been traveling around Asia for the past 4 months and I realized how hard is to find reliable reviews/information about accommodations to stay or places to visit...

... if you look at Tripadvisor for reviews, some people thought a place was great but for others, it was a bad experience...

... there is a clear problem of trust/context about place reviews in general.

... so I thought It would be nice to have an app where you can see the places your friends have been and a quick rating of their experience so you could get some reviews from people you trust.

...as I am a developer I build a quick MVP (IOS app) to experiment and see how I could solve this problem... (I think I built it too soon before validating the idea).

... HOWEVER, I find now that :

  • Most people do not post any comments, just save their places and do not come back as they do not have a reason to do so.

  • When a new user signs up he has to follow somebody that had reviewed to see some places reviews, however as I do not have enough users he has nobody to follow so basically he sees no useful content.

  • So basically the PROBLEM is when a new user signs up he does not get any VALUE more than saving its own visited places (which is nice but not as a core proposition as there are many apps that to that already).

What should I do? Should I pivot into something else? Is my app doomed to fail or do you think of any potential solutions?

Thanks in advance for your help!

This is the app MVP so far:

Most social websites/apps have the same problem... You need the users to create the content, but without content, you don't get any new users...

You need to create some content first, create enough value to make the app useful even without the user content.
