Can you identify as an Indie Hacker before you have a product?
I've just recently started working on my first two (yeah I know) products - one of which is on here, both are very very early stage - and I've noticed a shift in my self identification.
I was one of those "long time lurkers", floating about Indie Hackers, dreaming of being one, but never identifying as an Indie Hacker. I hadn't launched anything ever - lots of ideas, but for want of a bit of education, no confidence to execute.
Now, after starting work on my project(/s) I've noticed a distinct shift - I'd say I properly identify as an Indie Hacker and founder. Neither of my products is "complete" or launched, but they're both coming along.
So I wanted to ask; Can you, or do you, identify as an Indie Hacker if you're like I was - an aspiring Indie Hacker?

In my opinion it's a mindset more so than an action.
If you think like an indiehacker I would say you are one regardless of your performance.
I'd say yes. The fact that you're interested and keep coming back likely means you'll end up in this space anyways. I'm a designer who "lurked" for years with programming/web developement. After some time and practice I'm not what I'd call proficient in both.
I think labeling yourself or someone else as a "real indie hacker" is counter-productive. Just focus on what counts - getting stuff done :) Just my 2 cents.
