Cannot get users past the onboarding

From the 10 people who signed up to our product (Hubalz), only 1 went past the onboarding. Why might that be?

We are an analytics & marketing company so our onboarding has steps like choosing a business type and a website builder and we give instructions on how to insert a piece of code their specific platform. How could we make this easier for our customers?

It might be that you're introducing too much friction for your users early on and they're just not ready yet to fill this information straight away. What you can do is:

    • give them an option to skip the onboarding and explore on their own
    • educate them with the benefits from the product with a video
    • analyze deeper which step are they dropping off (it might be one particular step that is too complicated)
    • add progress bar and gamification to help them finish the onboarding

It seemed pretty clear to me tbh. Forgive me if i'm staring the obvious, but if each step is on a separate page you'd be able to identify where drop out's are occurring right? I'd assume the script pasting might be the sticky area, as it involves moving onto another platform, but that is normal, no way around that.

I suppose it depends how tech savvy your users are.

Do you have a follow up onboarding email (or sequence?)

Also have you asked those that dropped out, why they didn't proceed?

When they don't integrate in a week we send an email to them but a week hasn't passed yet.

Yes, I might try sending a mail to them to ask why they quit. Thanks for the suggestion!

Or, at this stage, maybe consider offering to do the onboarding for them/with them.

I'd also suggest waiting a week for follow up is too long, you have to strike while it's front of mind

Can you take a screenshot of the entire flow and share that?

One thing you could do is add the benefits to the side of the page, so that the user is reminded of why they came here. E.g. https://www.zeplo.io/signup

Also adding logos of customers you have gives people confidence when handing over information.
