Can't come up with anything given my skills
Backend/data engineer here. I've been trying to come up with some integration data related tool/automation but I really can't come up with any product idea that I have the skillset to produce. Moreover everything seems done and done better everywhere I look. Seems very difficult coming up with problems/solutions in the data and automation field that haven't been solved by common tools and open source projects already.
Where should I look and how do I come up with something realistic that I can turn into a product?
If you can't come up with ideas to pursuit by yourself, go out and talk to people... Meet-ups are a great way to find people in niches that could use automation/integration engineers. You can also try to visit local factories, merchants or shops and ask them to follow their day to see whether you can help them simplify things; they would get a free lifetime license of course...

Posting something like this is a great start - but if you want to grab an idea, you should start asking people about their problems, pain points, etc
