Hey friends!
With the increased stress on the environment, we all want to do our part to minimise our carbon footprint.
One of the biggest contributors for SaaS businesses is Cloud computing emissions.
All of these platforms now have a carbon footprint tool to view the emissions for your workloads.
My idea would be to automatically scrap this data and plant trees or donate to environmental projects (wind farm construction etc). A customer would be charged based on how much they wanted to offset.
For example, let's say I emit 100 tonnes of CO2 per year from AWS. I would pay this service each month to plant enough trees to cover that level of carbon emission. Simple as that.
What do you think? Is this something you'd be willing to pay for?
In the future, it could plug in with a time tracking system (like Toggl) to offset the carbon dioxide from employees computers.
Hi @joshghent,
I am looking into building n offsetting tool for e-commerce. Would you be open to jump on call or otherwise chat about your experience in the carbon offset work?
