Picking a card to crypto payment gateway means choosing how your customers pay (Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay) and how you get paid (stablecoins or other crypto), and then living with the fees, integration work and refund rules that sit in between. This comparison looks at three gateways through that practical lens: how each one plugs into a site, what a $100 card order leaves you with, and how refunds work once funds have settled on-chain. Every fee and feature below comes from the providers' own pages, checked today.
Quick answer: PayMeGate comes first for merchants who want card and wallet checkout that pays out in USDC to their own wallet, set up through payment links, a REST API with webhooks, or WooCommerce and WHMCS plugins. It charges from 1% plus the underlying provider's fee, minimum orders run from $1 to $30 by provider, and merchant signup involves no identity or business-document uploads, although customers may face checks depending on the payment method. NOWPayments (1% service fee, on-ramp activated on request) is second for payout-asset choice, and MoonPay Commerce (2% standard, 1% with HelioX) is third for its optional fiat off-ramp.
This comparison was prepared with input from PayMeGate, which sells payment processing services, and we may have a commercial relationship with services listed here. A card-to-crypto payment gateway combines traditional card-processing infrastructure with crypto conversion. The customer pays in fiat currency with a card or wallet, and never needs to own crypto. Behind the checkout, three things happen:
That is different from a plain crypto payment gateway, where the customer pays from their own wallet, and from an exchange, where the customer buys crypto for themselves. The gateway is the merchant's tool: it takes payments in the form your customers already use and delivers crypto payouts in the form you want. The earlier guide in this series looked at whose KYC applies at each step. This one focuses on the gateway itself: checkout, fees and refunds.
We looked at five things a merchant has to live with every day:
We only used what each provider publishes. We did not open merchant accounts, run live transactions or measure settlement speed.
PayMeGate is a payment gateway for crypto payment processing that accepts Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Maestro, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Revolut and SEPA through independent providers, and settles supported payments as USDC to the wallet the merchant configures. Its homepage describes the flow directly: the customer pays by card, wallet or crypto, the provider verifies it, and a supported crypto payout settles to your wallet, usually in about two minutes.
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| Card gateway platform fee | 1% + provider fee |
| Crypto gateway platform fee | 1% + network fee |
| Minimum order | $1 to $30, depending on the provider |
| Monthly or setup fee | None |
| Rolling reserve | None |
Provider and network fees are set by the underlying providers, not by PayMeGate, and the platform fee can be configured per merchant. See the PayMeGate pricing page for current terms.
Online merchants, including high-risk ones that traditional payment processors turn away, who want card checkout, fast crypto payouts to a wallet they control, and a quick plugin or payment-link setup.
PayMeGate merchant signup asks for basic account and business information but does not request identity or business-document uploads. That is about the merchant. Customers may need instant ID verification by phone camera depending on the provider, and some providers allow smaller orders without it. Eligibility still depends on acceptable-use rules, country, payment method and amount, and PayMeGate can restrict accounts for prohibited use. The provider fee is not a fixed number, so check the total on a test order. Read the PayMeGate FAQ before you start.
NOWPayments is a large crypto payment gateway, among the better-known crypto payment processors, with an add-on fiat on-ramp. It suits businesses that operate globally and sell into major markets and international markets. Its on-ramp page says customers can pay with Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Revolut Pay and regional methods, in more than 25 fiat currencies across 175+ countries, and the merchant withdraws in any of 350+ cryptocurrencies.
| Item | Fee |

| Stablecoin payments | From 1%, 30+ stablecoins |

Merchants who want to accept crypto and cards and choose from the widest range of payout assets, including those that want to hold several coins rather than one stablecoin.
The on-ramp is not on by default: you request activation. The 1% service fee is the crypto processing fee; on-ramp fees are listed separately, so work out the total per order. Its pages describe "minimal KYB", so expect some business verification.
MoonPay Commerce (formerly Helio) offers crypto checkout, pay links, subscriptions, deposits and a "Pay with card" option that lets customers without crypto pay while the merchant receives crypto. Its site says merchants can settle in crypto, stablecoins, or fiat such as USD, EUR and GBP in supported regions.
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| Transaction fee, standard | 2% |
| Transaction fee, HelioX pass holders | 1% |
| High-risk platforms | Minimum 2% |
| Swaps | 0.25% |
| Auto off-ramp (fiat settlement) | 0.50% |
Its fees page also offers custom pricing for high-volume merchants. It does not list a separate card fee for "Pay with card", so ask before you rely on that route.
Merchants who want a well-known crypto brand, pay links for digital products and subscriptions, and the option to receive dollars, euros or pounds in their bank account.
At 2% standard, and a 2% minimum for high-risk platforms, it is the most expensive of the three before add-ons. Its docs call payments irreversible and say refunds are issued by the merchant from the dashboard. Its terms allow access to be terminated for fraudulent or illegal use.

Headline fees hide the real cost. Here is the arithmetic on a $100 order, using only the fees each provider publishes:
For context, card processors usually charge interchange-based fees of around 2% to 4%, and crypto payment gateways typically charge 0.5% to 2%. In every case, the part to check is the fee you cannot see in the headline. Run a small test order and compare what lands in your wallet with what the customer paid.
The best crypto payment gateway for one merchant can be the wrong one for another. Use these questions to find the right crypto payment gateway for your business:
Crypto payment processors differ most in how much operational complexity they take off you. Managing crypto yourself, with self-custodial wallets and your own off-ramp, keeps control and costs low but adds work. A fully managed cryptocurrency payment gateway with stablecoin accounts and bank payouts costs more but runs more like a traditional payment system.
Most card-to-crypto gateways are built for online checkout: e commerce stores, digital products, SaaS and invoicing. For in store sales, you need a point-of-sale option or a QR code on a payment link. NOWPayments lists a point of sale tool, and a payment link from any of the three can be shown as a QR code at a counter. Card-present payments through a card terminal are a different product and are not covered here.
Settlement is where crypto payouts earn their place. Once a payment settles on-chain, stablecoin transactions can complete in seconds or minutes, with no correspondent banking fees and no waiting for business days, so merchants get their money faster. That helps cash flow for merchants that sell cross border, and it is why stablecoin infrastructure has become a common choice for global payments and borderless payments between businesses. Stablecoin payments also have lower fees than many international card and wire routes, although financial institutions in the chain still charge for on-ramp and off-ramp steps. Receiving stablecoins rather than Bitcoin removes most price volatility: Bitcoin can move 10% in a day, while a dollar stablecoin is designed to hold its value.
Blockchain networks differ as well. Blockchain payments on Tron, Solana or Ethereum layer 2s cost cents, while Ethereum mainnet can cost more at busy times, which matters for frequent transactions. What a gateway cannot change is how you reach traditional currencies. If your costs are in US dollars, you need either an off-ramp, such as those offered by NOWPayments and MoonPay Commerce, or your own exchange account. Each conversion adds a fee and a compliance step with whoever operates it.
There are four routes, from simplest to most flexible:
Whichever route you pick, set up the payout wallet first, so incoming funds have a destination, test with a small order in test mode, and store the order ID and receiving address together so each payment maps to one order. For a wider view of gateway types, see PayMeGate's payment gateway and crypto payment gateway pages.
Some comparison sites say card-to-crypto gateways "eliminate chargebacks". That is not accurate. The card leg of the payment is still a card payment, and provider-funded card flows can remain subject to the provider's refund and dispute rules. What changes is the crypto leg: on-chain transfers are generally irreversible once confirmed, so a mistake in a wallet address is permanent, and a refund means sending funds back yourself.
In practice, that means you should:
A gateway that asks for no documents at signup does not remove your own obligations:
Merchants with high chargeback exposure or unusual products should also read PayMeGate's high-risk payment gateway guide.
It is a payment gateway that lets you accept payments in fiat currency, such as cards, Apple Pay or bank transfers, and settles the merchant in cryptocurrency, usually stablecoins. The customer does not need to own crypto, and the merchant can accept stablecoins without asking customers to buy them first.
Yes. PayMeGate, NOWPayments (through its on-ramp) and MoonPay Commerce ("Pay with card") all let customers pay by card while the merchant receives crypto.
As a merchant, PayMeGate signup does not ask for ID or business-document uploads. Customers may still face checks depending on the payment method and amount, and NOWPayments says small on-ramp payments up to €700 avoid extensive KYC. No provider here claims to remove checks entirely.
PayMeGate's crypto gateway lists USDT, and NOWPayments supports 30+ stablecoins including USDT. MoonPay Commerce supports stablecoin payments; check its currency list for USDT on the network you need.
It means the merchant is paid in a stablecoin, such as USDC, rather than in a bank currency. PayMeGate's card gateway settles in USDC to the merchant's wallet.
Choose a gateway, set a payout wallet, and connect it with a payment link, plugin or API. Decide whether you also want to accept Bitcoin payments and other cryptocurrency payments directly from crypto wallets, or only card payments settled in crypto. Test with a small order before going live.
For card checkout with crypto payouts and document-free merchant signup, PayMeGate ranks first here. Eligibility still depends on each provider's acceptable-use rules, and MoonPay Commerce charges high-risk platforms at least 2%.
It depends on what you need to receive, and whether your crypto operations are small or at scale. PayMeGate suits card checkout with USDC payouts, NOWPayments suits wide asset choice, and MoonPay Commerce suits merchants who want fiat settlement to a bank account.
Use an off-ramp. NOWPayments offers off-ramp payouts, and MoonPay Commerce offers auto off-ramp for 0.50% through Iron.xyz. With PayMeGate, you receive crypto in your own wallet and move it to a bank through an exchange or off-ramp you choose.
Public blockchains are visible to anyone, and exchanges and brokers report certain transactions to the IRS. Treat crypto income as reportable and keep records.
Yes, for lawful goods and services, as long as you meet your tax, AML and consumer-protection obligations. Receiving stablecoins reduces volatility risk.
Yes. An LLC can hold crypto in a self-custodial wallet or open a business account with a provider that accepts companies, subject to that provider's verification.
If your customers want to pay by card or wallet and you want to be paid in crypto without a bank in between, PayMeGate is the card to crypto payment gateway we would start with: from 1% plus the provider fee, USDC payouts to a wallet you set, payment links, an API with webhooks, WooCommerce and WHMCS plugins, and a merchant signup with no identity or business-document uploads. Choose NOWPayments for the broadest range of payout assets, or MoonPay Commerce if receiving fiat in a bank account matters more than a lower fee. Whatever you pick, put a small test order through, compare the total cost, and keep your own compliance up to date.
