[Case Study] How I used Notion to validate my idea & get to $646 MRR in three weeks (+ free template!)

Hey all!

Today I'm excited to share with you the Notion template I used to manage all of my customer conversations, identify insights to de-risk my business idea, and pre-sell over $200 of my product before launch.

It seems to have worked, because that product, softwareideas.io is growing rapidly, already at $646 MRR and over $2,000 in sales in only three weeks!

In the template, I've included my real customer conversations so you can see what the process actually looks like. All of these have been anonymized, of course.

The template contains two parts:

  1. The table for customer interviews, acting as a small CRM and, more importantly as a way for you to record and draw insights from your customer conversations.

  1. A risks/hypotheses table, letting you capture the big-picture of the customer conversations, allowing you to keep track of risks as you move through and mitigate or validate them.

You can find detailed instructions specifically inside the document!

Happy to answer any questions in the comments below! I hope you find this useful!

PS: I'll be doing a detailed video walkthrough of this template for subscribers of softwareideas.io. If that interests you, you can sign up here.

    Interesting experience, thanks!
Where did you get people to interview and how you conducted the interviews?
    Thanks!

    Cool stuff.

what's your hypothesis if people found their idea? maybe monthly use not the optimal pricing.

Sorry, I don't understand the question!

I think he’s asking “what if someone finds their startup idea on the first issue they receive from you” then want to cancel, and maybe monthly pricing isn’t optimal for this scenario?

          Ah, thank you.

I think most people will find that the quarterly subscription makes sense. Even though it sounds efficient, most people won’t want to pay $200+ for a business idea. A subscription gives you a wide range of ideas, helps you learn how to evaluate a range of opportunities for yourself, and I’m also adding a community aspect and discounts to software that help you get the business started. All in all, people seem to really like the model!

Wow! This is great. Thanks for putting it together and sharing it! 🙌
